Daily driver that performs like the FD

Persona non grata
Porsche's in general (pre turbo 2017) suit us rotary guys well, we're used to keeping it high in the rev band, and that's exactly what you have to do here as well. As a package the 16 Cayman is pretty fantastic, tossable and good pull over 5k. I also really like the high tunnel that puts the shift lever at mid chest level, feels odd at first but quickly you realize that it's more ergonomic. The cabin space is excellent, overall very high fit and finish, but some of the center buttons are confusing and hidden behind the shifter. Good exhaust note too.
Personally I'd take a Boxster over a Cayman though, nothing makes it more fun than doing it topless. I loved driving this Boxster (my shot).

Just drove a 2016 GTS and getting a 2017 within 2 weeks. Tomorrow I'm shooting a Porsche Club lapping day, and was told I'd be able to drive a 2017 on the track if I wanted. Duh, I want

If you're still leaning toward the C63, they are nice rides. I've had an E55 AMG for a few years. Fantastic as a long-distance cruising battleship, but I'd never call it "nimble." Depreciation drops AMG prices very fast, but of course MB still treats parts & maintenance as if the car will perpetually be worth MSRP. In my experience, maintenance costs for any of the AMG-ish parts can be very expensive (if that's a factor for you). I had an aftermarket service contract on the E55 (first time I've ever bought one), and I was glad I did. Of course, the more that you can wrench yourself, the less it's an issue, but nobody wants to pay to fix a valvetrain problem out of their own pocket...

Well just judging by some of the cars you have listed above my 2 cents would be look at the ISF it's a complete blast to drive loads of power and just planted to the road may be a bit hard to find one but you can get one around 25 or so

I racked my brain about this since the first post – I'd be looking at a Porsche 968, I think.

Good call. The 4WD versions could give most of us an excuse to drive the 911 all year round.

Been dailying an E90 (sedan) 335i for about a year now. I def wouldn't compare it to a FD...but I personally consider the FD to be a terrible daily driver. Reliability, comfort, and torque are high on my list of daily driver qualities, none of which are easy to achieve with a FD. Lightness, handling, and feel/driver feedback are important to me for a track car, all of which the FD can master with some love and an ample supply of green paper.
I went with the later model E90 (after minor change, or "LCI" in the bimmer nerd realm) specifically due to the switch from the twin turbo N54 engine to the single turbo N55. With twin turbo, the 54 doesn't run out of breath as easy up top, resulting in a more mod friendly setup that sits around 400whp/400tq with bolt ons and piggyback "tune". The twin scroll single turbo on the N55 is tiny, so power is not as easy to unlock as it is on the N54, but for me the increased reliability of the N55 was well worth it. Same mods on the N55 net around 380whp/420ish torque with half a tank of E85 (20psi boost y0). No slouch and torque is instant.
I really like it tbh. Comfy, somewhat luxurious, fancy **** I wasn't used to like a nice navi/entertainment screen, Bluetooth, paddle shifters, and pretty good reliability considering it's European. I think they look cool too (M-Sport package). Down the line when I get bored...there's a turbo upgrade I have my eye on that'll produce 500+whp and torque. All while being friendly enough for the wife to drive and enjoy, not get shot by a cop, not deal with smog bullshit (there are great 02 sims available for the platform), and rock two car seats in back while going on countless Target runs for the wife. Great DD IMO.

I've been driving my Mazdaspeed 6 for the last 10 years and it's time for a change. With the MS6, it drives and behaves very much like a FD with the steering, how control feels and overall sportiness of the car.
What would be a suitable car with those characteristics today?
Only requirement is 4 seats and a trunk.
Being able to have fun at legal speed limit
Below is my list in that order:
2011 1M
2013 C63
2014 STI
2009 997.2 (stretching it)
No E9x M3 as it's high on fuel consumption and you can only have fun going 100 mph +
Thoughts?

We just picked up a Mazda 3S touring. It's no where near as nice of a daily as the BMW 435 M sport I'm currently driving. It's also about 1/3 the price. BMW in my opinion are the ultimate daily drivers. I drove an M2 the other day and it's even better than the 435.
It's def on my list of cars to own now.

Coming full circle on this ..... test drove everything and I ended up with a B8.5 6 spd Audi S4 with the sport differential.
Drives like a rwd and the sport diff rotates the car very nicely, much better than the MS6.
It was close between the C63 and S4, but I needed 4WD for Canadian weather and didn't want my daily to consume more gas and tires than the FD.
S4 is a chip away from running 11.xx in the 1/4 mile.

I really like the F-Type. Wouldn't mind that V8... awesome.
I can get a unreal deal on a ATS-V coupe with 6 speed.... lease isnt up on my ATS sedan but still may pull trigger.
Neither of these options will cut the mustard in December through March though....
