Crazy shipping costs???!!
Anyone know what's going on with crazy high shipping costs from UPS and Fedex? I haven't sold or shipped anything in ages. Went to UPS to try and ship a set of springs in a 16x11x11 box at 24 lbs and am getting rates over $90 for ground. That's nuts!
Any workarounds to this?
Thanks.

Get a stamps.com account or pitney-bowes account, they have access to bulk shipping discounts. But there is a monthly fee associated with either, the savings could justify it though. All the shipper rates are really high now, for sure, anyway you look at it.
If you have a paypal business account you can buy shipping through them and normally get a discount.
I have found services like ParcelMonkey to get good rates on larger/heavier items that need to go UPS or Fedex.
If it is something you sold on Ebay, their Fedex rates are normally pretty good.
There are other shipping brokers out there I am sure. For me at least, they always beat the direct pricing from UPS/USPS/Fedex by a huge amount of money.
USPS flat rate can also be an option if you can fit them in one of those boxes.

I finally shipped this out but... f... shipping got expensive...
I had an old retail account with FedEx that provided a small discount. Even so $60 from CA to NJ residential with me dropping off at a FedEx Kinkos. 16x11x11 and 23lbs.

There's been some serious gouging going on since the the ccp virus went full pandemic. Ordering from RHDJapan right now is simply out of the question. They wanted $800(CAN) to ship a fender set that costs $375(CAN)!! And that's before duties! I hope the shipping costs return to some type of normal but it probably won't be soon. I was talking to a guy at RHD and he said this is really killing their profits. FedEx is currently not shipping anything from Japan. I haven't checked for updates but I'm guessing it's not back to normal yet.
Guess I'll have to live with the occasional rub for now.

I just bought a dashpot from Amayama Japan, they shipped FedEx no problem. Part was $68, shipping $38. Came in one of those FedEx standard boxes. Got here fairly quickly - arrived at their warehouse Monday, got to my door Thursday.
For large stuff that may be another story, though.

Edit: It could very well be a weight/size issue.
