BC Cpu For Automatic

We learned that there was a different CPU for JDM automatic. This was in relation to trying to trouble shoot the power windows on a JDM that had been converted to 5-speed. I believe the power windows ran through the cpu, and not through a fuse in one of the fuse boxes.

Whoever you "learned" that from might be schizophrenic... No the power for the windows do not go through the engine computer. Have done multiple JDM FD AT>MT conversions both 8 bit and 16 bit '91-'03, and it is no different than USDM swaps. Jump the safety switch connect the reverse sensor, 3 connections, easy.

The F100('91-'93?) and F110('93-'03) CPU#2 does control the power to the windows, along with hazard lights, but AT or MT CPU#2's are the same. Early and late model cars have different part numbers but are interchangeable.

BC Prior Switcheroo

I recall now, somehow an F100 had ended up in the car. We researched and found it should be the F110. We switched in a spare F110 and bingo, the windows worked (after we had also replaced a defective passenger power window switch).

I attach a picture of a JDM fuse box cover ("F100" version?) and the schematic from the 95 USDM electrical manual. The USDM manual shows a fuse for the power window in the spot which is blank on the JDM cover.

(For reference all the Japanese words for the other fuses match up to the English version in the manual.)

I've been working a lot and haven't had time to check my thread. I'm glad it's sparking up ideas and opinions. And for Redbul, I'm not stationed in Japan but I was there very recently and stopped by this famous place below in Japan, with a FD out front! You see FD's in Japan about the same as you see a 2015-2017 Corvette in the states. I was around base though, so that probably isn't a good metaphor. Anyways I went off topic but thought I'd share.

On topic, I hope the FD will live on forever. I'm the next generation of the FD community, since I'm so young. Hopefully more young adults my age are as passionate about this car as the older generation. All I want is a supportive community like now and lots of spare parts in the future but that's not reality.

Yea the power windows power goes through the F100 or F110 relay on all JDM makes and models, every single last one of them. AT and MT has no relevance whatsoever. 9 out of 10 F100 relays are just bad, due to age and poor build quality, F110 is a just a better part that does the same thing and its newer, and only has a 1 in 10 fail rate in my experience. This thing is right up there with the plastic outer door handle and AST.

BC Get Past the AST

Looks like that blue FD above has the ast problem you mention. Nice car though. What would an example like that sell for in Japan these days?

Looks like it is time to stock up on F110s!

I cannot answer for j9fd3s but (after reading the terms and conditions) I believe I can answer from my own information as a racer supported by the Mazdaspeed Motorsports Development Racer Support Program.

13B-REW part # N3G102200 (the latest '99 high power 5speed manual version) is available to purchase.

This part is on Back Order as there are currently none available in Japan to ship over and the last stock was used up 8 months ago.

There are currently 41 orders for this item through Mazda worldwide.

If Mazda discontinues a part Mazdaspeed is alerted immediately and this is not the case for this part.

It will be 30-90 days from my time of order that Mazda will deliver the part or alert me that it has been discontinued.

Mazdaspeed rep told me pretty much just what j9fd3s has said except that it is probably a vendor Mazda uses for a component of this item that Mazda is waiting on.

Mazdaspeed rep was enthusiastic on the value of this item (as was I).

I did not see anywhere in the terms and conditions that Mazdaspeed information or pricing is confidential, but it is industry standard not to advertise sponsorship prices as it could in this case upset Mazda dealerships.

I will say that Mazda standard pricing is right around $5,700 for this item and I cannot believe the extent to which Mazda supports its club racers with the Racer Discount on this item.

I have looked at the dates on other new 13B-REW crates which is listed in the Japanese way (year, month and day of the current Emperors reign) and all the 13B-REW I saw were New Old Stock from when the FD was in production. For the '99 spec high power they were all produced 1999 to 2002 from the examples I saw.

These will be brand new 13B-REW.

Which reminds me, I need to call and ask if Mazdaspeed knows if Mazda will update their assembly proceedure to match the 13B-MSP process.

If these 13B-REW will be dynamically balanced I want to change my order to an Automatic engine so I can pop off the flexplate and put my aftermarket flyweel on and preserve the balance.

Anyways, the takeaway is Mazda truly wants you to race your Mazda car and supports its customers and racers very well.

NVM, the '99+ automatic engine costs quite a bit more and there is $1,000 core charge on top.

Not willing to spend that much more for a closer balance!

its Mazda, they don't do PR, or if they do it, it doesn't get to Mazda USA until after the fact.

basically Mazda USA supplied reman rotary engines, as the license they had from NSU/Wankel wouldn't let them sell new engines in the USA. there got to some point where the front oil pressure spring (among some other little parts) went NLA.

a some point a couple of years ago, they stopped doing reman engines, and started supplying new engines under the reman part number. possibly due to the NLA parts. currently now they supply new engines under the new part number, N3G1-02-200, like Blue mentions. it does seem like they at first cleared out the old inventory of engines, but then last summer there was another order of more, and these seemed to be new/fresh.

don't forget that Mazda has a whole rotary engine factory that is just sitting there, and 41 engines is about 1/3 of a day's production for them, they were making something on the order of 120 Rx7's a day in 1985, and that is just counting US/Canada/Guam

ETA is still TBD, although Japan would be closed the last 2 weeks of December, so perhaps nobody knows yet

the automatic FD engine is NLA.

GSL-SE rotor housings (33 year old car!!) show up for valentines day.

the normal parts department, and competition parts use the same database, but the interface is better on the parts side.

Yup, I called last Tuesday and Mazda was just checking the account to see if the funds were still available to keep it on order. Was told they are hoping to see engines by end of January.

Great that they're going to be selling the engines here finally too. Got to hand it to Mazda and the passion they have for their history. A lot of manufactures would rather spend their efforts on the newest planned obsolescence designs, rather than spending money into supporting a 20 year old niche product. I wonder if Mazda is even breaking even on selling new engines? I can't imagine its terribly expensive for them to pump out a batch of them, but they can't be selling that many either.

I can't see the community getting much smaller than it already is. By now these cars are old and are already classics that need more attention, and most of them have found their way into hands of diehard enthusiasts. As prices and demand go up, its going to further cement support for the car. As OE parts dry up, someone will make a replica version of that part, the market will demand it, and these cars will always have a following without doubt.

We can still order new engines direct from the dealer with a core(no exceptions or core charges) here in Japan, really jealous of your discount. I got the same $6K price for AT as I did MT though. Who knows...
