Brake booster disassembly and paint

Has anyone had any luck with disassembling the brake booster? I'm only looking to strip and paint the front "cover" of it and was wondering if it is possible to remove the cover without pieces flying everywhere so I can put it through the sand blasting cabinet and give it a new look. Or if I can just mask off the opening?

if you look in the FSM it does not look very hard to take it apart, but there is also a giant spring in there, so you need to have some way to contain it. and if you're going to take it apart, you should replace the rubber bits in there. ive been testing the FC/FB boosters when have the car apart, and they are going bad

Brake booster

I repainted mine on my recent rebuild. I sealed off both ends with duct tape on the firewall side and stuffed a rag into the engine side to close it off. I then blasted it in my baking soda blasting cabinet. Used Eastwood chassis primer and gloss black paint. Put the back section into a large tall PVC pipe, stand it upright, and you have perfect painting position. I never took it apart since mine was working fine. Here it is after.
