Best Seat/Rail setup for Taller people

Hello. My name is Justin and I’m from Clemson SC. I am 6’5, 270lbs and concerned. I have 2 fd rx7s and have 2 more coming from a pending trade deal. My biggest question is how can I fit better in my fd? What seat gives the best comfort in these cars and what rail setups allow the most head room? The current car I’m putting work into has a sunroof…. I drove her around a little while today in the stock seats and man was it crammed…..

thankyou.
Justin

There have been a few threads on this.

I'm 6'6" 210 pounds, mostly legs in height.

Cars with a sunroof I can drive but I'm not comfortable, my head is up against the sunroof. I have an R2 so no sunroof in my personal car.

The leather seats for whatever reason do seem to sit higher than the base cloth or R1 suede seats. I also sat in a friend's FD with the suede seats that he opened up and removed some of the foam from the seat bottom, that did drop the seat down some and give more headroom.

Next big thing for me was the steering wheel. The stock wheel is BIG and too far away when sitting with the seat all the way back. Going to an aftermarket wheel (Momo) with a spacer to move it closer to me made a huge difference in leg room comfort.

As is with the stock R2 suede seats and the better steering wheel I fit very comfortably. I drive 8 hours one way each year to Deal's Gap and I'm totally comfortable. I have thought about removing some foam to lower my position a bit more but haven't found time for that project.

Aftermarket seats are tricky. Many have high thigh bolsters which don't work for me since I sit with my legs kind of "splayed" out - the bolsters hit the middle of my thigh. Most race seats are designed for short dudes - it's assuming. a seating position with your legs fairly straight and your shoulders actually hitting the shoulder bolsters instead of above them. Also think about many of the good manufacturers of race seats - Bride (Japan), Sparco (Italy), Racaro (Italy) - these are countries not known for their tall dudes .

Last point - RHD seats have limiters in the seat rails that keep them from going all the way back. This is due to the back seats in most of the RHD cars so you don't crush the rear seat passenger. You can drill that limiter out of the rail and have full functionality.

I am nowhere near as tall as you guys but i can barely fit in an fd with sunroof and the headroom is very limited . forget a helmet for any track events
it seems that you are still in the market for a car. i would personally go for a non-sunroof car instead.
