Used ones pop up on Buyee fairly regularly.

No excuses!

Well, OK, but I'd rather not pay international shipping/customs/tariffs/etc. on a item listed as "damaged/dirty".

Anyway, got mine today from Virginia, new and perfect!

Used or new, there is no reason to claim one can't be found.

Sorry, I meant in general. In general, people should not claim they can't find one.

It has been a running gag, that otherwise perfectly presented cars, are missing the battery cover.

No problem. I had the PN/Desc in my EBay notifications for YEARS and finally a more reasonably priced one popped up.

I would have, if the guy I bought mine from hadn't stopped me as I was leaving the driveway after buying the car in 2010! What did I know?

Now if I could just find that elusive whale tail, BNIB, red and perfect...

I think. Like the old STI ones. But everything needs paint, bolts are rusted out, 3 billion yen, etc.

BC

I, in fact, have a black one in pretty good shape. But it has become much more difficult to ship to the US from Canada. However, I see them for under C$100 on Buyee. Jesse Streeter might agree to ship. Seamail might be under C$100.

I get seamail all the time from Japan, and the boxes always arrive in pristine condition.

Why not buy two and subsidize you purchase by selling one once it gets here?

Seems like the price has gone up since I last looked.

Just buy a decent one and paint/repair it. If you have an R1 spoiler you'll be painting anyway. If no spoiler, you lucky bastard, but you'll still be painting if you want it to match because the two reds (your car, the spoiler) will have probably aged differently.
I bought a white one reasonably cheap because it was sprayed poorly black, and I've sanded it thus far. Need to paint it and finish the hatch patching before I install it.

Thanks for the leads, but I probably should have added I'd do this if I was 20 years younger. :/
