Dead Battery #275485

ok guys

i went through a few old batteries before i went out and bought a new one
anyway, my new $100 + battery died about 2 months after initial usage.
i got it checked out by an auto sparky and he says my system is fine. (twice)

I have tried every theory out, but then i realized... maybe it's because of the heat soak that my battery is dying!?
anyone care to comment?

also i don't have that cover for the battery that came standard either
oh it's an s4

thanks!

I would be checking alt output voltage and current draw.

If a battery is dieing within 2 months of new, then your "auto sparky" didn't check the car out or you have been draining the battery playing the stereo with the key off.

Even with no case, the heat of the engine compartment won't kill a battery that quick.

if you get the battery too hot it will usually do things like leak and boil. unless you got a bum battery theres something else wrong

In this case that is like putting a band aid on a knife stab.

if you have a working alternator the fuel pump can almost take as much current as it wants too. what does the voltmeter say when the car it running?

Yep, you need at least 1 volt positive (or 13.6 volts) to charge a 12.6 volt automotive battery.

What brand/size/age was that $100 battery?

Also, whats the condition of the battery/ground/alternator cables.

Get a solar battery charger to top off the battery when the vehicle is off.

Bump the idle an extra 50-150 rpm to improve idle charging.
