WA Automatic Transmission Inquiries

1. I have a faded memory that the automatic transmission that Mazda put in the FD had previously been used in another Mazda vehicle. Is there any more specific information about whether that is true and what vehicle it was used in?
1.a. Since parts are hard to get, maybe that could be a source?

2. Is there a good explanation of what causes the HOLD light flashing, and whether there can be false alarms in that path of equipment?

3. One source said only 500 automatic transmission FD vehicles were imported. Is that true? Any guess how many were converted to manual?

I believe the MPV van shared the basic transmission, but it's probably just the main body/guts of it. I bet a lot of the gearing and such is different.

I think the number of auto cars is well more than 500. There are stats out there somewhere if you Google around.

1. the 89-98 MPV, 929, and similar vintage Nissan pathfinders use the same basic transmission. they were noted for their unreliability, but a transmission shop should know their way around them
2. see the FSM, the hold light can flash like the check engine light, the piece in question can be replaced, but be prepared for it to be $$$
3. no idea on total number, but 1995 is 61/529

Section K of the FSM. Codes are on page K-217 of the 93 service manual.
