Applying a shaft repair sleeve to my driveshaft?

The input end (shiny front side that goes into the back of the gearbox) on my FD is pitted because the previous owner had the car pulled down for a while and left the driveshaft exposed to elements. The issue I have been having is that there is oil leaking from the seal in the back of the gearbox around the driveshaft. The oil leaks down on the exhaust and then it burns and you get smell coming up in to the car as well. The car is fairly low mileage and the joints feel good.

Has anybody applied like a repair sleeve to shaft? If so, do yo know which one works (ID and OD, etc)?
Rock Auto has one listed on their website but I am not sure if it will work. The installation depth of 2" which the tool that is shipped with it sounds kind of shallow to me. Here is the link the Rock-Auto site:

I have bought from Rock Auto many times in the past for many of my vehicles and I have gotten a few things from them that just does not fit. So do not want to buy, waste my time pulling of the driveshaft (i know it doesn't take that long) to find it can work.

\Anybody with any experience or advice for this?

How bad is the pitting? Can it be cleaned up with some emery cloth where it interfaces with the seal?

No, its worse than that.I had carried it to the machine shop guys to take a look to see what needed to be done. I had asked the same thing if it could just be polished out and they said it would only make the clearance bigger and cause more leaking. They said they would have to build it up with welding and then grind it back down to the correct diameter. But to do that they would also need the mainshaft out of a gearbox to be placed inside the shaft to ensure that the shaft does not permanently deform under the heat and then wont be able to fit back over the gearbox shaft. And I dont have a spare shaft lying around and not in the mood to unnecessarily pull up my gearbox.

Does any know of a similar seal that can be used with a slightly smaller ID so that If I polish the shaft it would still fit snug?

I would get your hands on a good used driveshaft. Shipping could be a pain but I don't think used driveshafts go for much money.

May also be worth doing a real good sanding/cleaning on that end to get it as smooth as possible and replacing the rear seal on your gearbox. Just that may be enough to do the trick.

I would also be sure to top off the gear oil in the gearbox, that's an easy way to kill a gearbox running it low on oil.

I have replaced the seal before, but never really done the thorough sanding and cleaning, and it still leaks.

Regarding the gearbox I have been recently having an issue and I am not sure if it is the gearbox or not. I had not topped in a while, not knowing how fast or slow the leak really is. The other day I parked for a couple hours on a hill with the back facing down hill. On the way there and maybe for 2 days before I found I was fighting a bit more to get into first gear and it felt kind of spongy. When I was ready to leave and moved the car I saw maybe 12-18" diameter spot on the concrete of gear oil. By the time I got home and tried the park, the car wouldn't go into reverse. I parked it for about a week, jacked it up and topped up the oil and it took about maybe 3/4" of a quart bottle (using AMSOIL 75-90W). Started the car and worked it in a little bit and it started to find reverse with some effort. As I continued to dive the car, its now very hard to select 1st or 2nd, the gear is just not going in easily. Its not grinding or anything, it just doesnt want to go it. Especially if you give some rev in 1st and try to go into second, it just mishifts. So even moving from a stoplight, if you push to where it supposed to be in 1st or 2nd you have to test it by lifting the clutch and trying to move off to know if it has truly selected. So now I struggle to find 1st gear when moving off from a light and it safer to shift straight to 3rd rather than mishshift 2nd.

Is it a shifter issue (needs a rebuild .. car has a short shifter as well, don't know the brand) or a gearbox problem? From I have owned the car I always found it it easier and movement when swinging from neutral just pass the gear lever through 2nd gear then into 1st gear. It has become muscle memory for me now. Please Help!!!!
