Any Bay Area guys willing to let me drive their FD?

Hey guys,

I don't know anybody in my area who has an FD and I really wanna drive one. If there's anybody in the Bay who'd be willing to let me take their FD for a spin please PM me; I'd really appreciate it.

If you're on Facebook, check out this RX-7 meet tomorrow. Maybe someone there might, or let you ride shotgun.

Seriously tho, I hardly let my close friends take a slow spin in my FD, let alone some person I do not know. OP you might be asking a bit too much...

On the otherhand asking to ride shotgun with someone is more reasonable.

Now if you are really desperate to test drive an FD just pretend you are a potential buyer and find a used one being sold. The seller might let you take a test spin....yeah yeah I know its not ethical, but hey...you can brag to your friends you drove an FD...

Really? I don't think I've owned a car I haven't let people drive (multiple FDs, 10 sec Evo, Supercharged E92 M3). I mean, you can't drive it at 9/10 (that's for shotgun) but just to get the idea - sure - why not?

Different strokes I suppose.

But I get the point of not letting a complete stranger drive it.

OP: Make friends with some FD guys... then butter them up.

Eh, maybe I'm a bit of a scrooge when it comes to letting people drive the FD. And it feels really strange sitting in the passanger seat while someone drives it.

No one drives my car unless I know them really well, and even then I probably wont let them drive it. Anyone that lets a stranger drive their high performance car is a fool.

LOL...

Strangers...no. And if I DID live in the area it would be a big "NO" to the OP. But this fool let's his family drive it and the occasional friend if they want. I'm in the passenger seat with them. I'm a member of a local sports car club and a couple of guys have driven it, as I have driven their cars. Common sense prevails. Sharing the experience of driving the car is one way I enjoy the car.

Oh man. One of my favorite feelings is being in the passenger seat... and one of my favorite views is seeing it roll from a different vehicle.

"Wow. So THIS is what it feels like for you?"

...or the first time I got to witness my car spitting flames.

"Damn. Those flames DO look sweet. Does it always do that?"

If I were to hand the keys of my FD to somebody else, it would have to be somebody who I already knew and respected as a skilled driver (like a regular at the local auto-x), or my wife. Either way, I'd be shotgun and the training wheels would be turned on, unless I knew they had plenty of experience driving a similar power/weight RWD car in anger.

There are only 2 or 3 people I would toss my keys to, no questions asked, and one doesn't even live in the US!!

I get REALLY nervous when I have to let the tire guy drive it in/out of the service bay. Someone I don't know driving it? Doesn't that saying go something like "my cold dead hands"?

Even some random person on the internet who wants to drive it? I doubt it...just saying. To most of us on this forum these cars are our pride and joy. Now if you have an equally kick *** car and want to let us drive it in return, that's another story. Most of us have a lot invested into it and don't want someone else to blame or get money out of in case it breaks down while they are driving it. Even if I trust a friends ability to drive my FD, I still let them know of my: "You break it, you buy it" policy.

Start another thread when you get your own

A stranger derive my car? F that.... Lol

I let my friends drive mine. However ever since going single, no one floors it but me. I tell it as such and remind them that the car has twice the HP and NO TRACTION CONTROL and they completely understand.

One very close friend who I've known since I was 15, who is a car guy himself and an insurance agent doesn't get to drive it. As he has proven twice that he is not capable of using his brain.

I don't think the OP is suggesting he drives it alone. If I lived in the bay area, I wouldn't have a problem with it.

You would let a complete stranger drive your car? Why take the risk? I dont understand this at all. One corner with a little too much throttle, the car boosts, spins, and maybe is totalled. Why risk it?

It's funny how I would have never let anyone drive my FC, but I wouldn't mind giving someone I knew could drive it a ride in my FD or my MR2.

"Hey honey... I never met this guy from the internet, but I am headed out to meet him and I am going to let him drive my car.... cause you know... I want to show it off."
"The Subaru winter beater?? Why would you show that off?"
"No, the FD..."
"Sounds like a smart decision... Oh, put on the used balding tires and say hi to Paul Walker for me."
