Thumbs down Say goodbye to my o-rings!!!


I don't even know how to start this thread, but my water seals let go after 101k miles. I think it had to do with the obscene temperatures we have been seeing around the country lately (coupled with the fact that I refuse to drive slowly).

Anyway, the engine served a long-life I suppose, but I knew this was coming sooner or later. Just in case you are wondering, this happened literally from one day to the next. I got in my car to go to work and (beep) "add coolant". No white-smoke, no coolant smell, just a serious ejection of coolant.

I tried my best to keep this engine out of trouble, but when it want to quit, there's no stopping it. I even tap-danced around the problem by having my system pressure-checked, changed hoses, did this did that ... nothing.

Of course I will be rebuilding, but at this point, I still have not decided weather or not I should extend its life a few more months by doing the block-weld fix. Regarding this fix, I am mostly concerned about doing damage to the engine components (aluminum radiator, turbos, throttle-body) rather than the engine itself as it will be rebuilt...

You've got nothing to lose except about $8.00 a bottle - it won't hurt the other components at all since they need to be completely cleaned. cored, etc. before reassembly. Make sure you get the right stuff made by CRC: Copper Block Weld. It worked for me! You may want to try it several times and leave it in for a while. I think it depends on the gap you are trying to fill. Small gaps, works like a charm. Big gap - fugedaboudit.

worked for me for a bit...but the evil 15psi monster i couldnt controll/nor loose to a gsr 700...so there went my bandaid....now im in the same boat...pullin the engine on sept 1st..
