oil cooler(s) - how important?

Just out of curiosity, how big a deal is the second oil cooler in the R1 FD.. and for that matter how much does the single oil cooler do?

I was just noticing the other day that the fins on the one in my touring FD are all bent up so I doubt it's getting nearly as much air flow as it's supposed to. Also, I've been kinda wary to road race my 7 because of the lack of 2nd oil cooler, but maybe I'm just being paranoid..

You can't do enough to keep temps down on your FD, especially living in Texas! Every one on this forum is always going on and on about new radiators but the fact is an extra oil cooler is going to help a lot more to keep temps in check than a thicker radiator. The stock rad works great EXCEPT for the cheesy plastic that fails over time. Lots of guys race with the stock rad and have no overheating problems at all.
Take a small screwdriver and CAREFULLY straighten out those fins one at a time. Then take a hose and with MODERATE spray blast em' out from the REAR. (IF YOU USE A STRONG SPRAY YOU'LL JUST BEND THEM AGAIN.) They'll be as clean as new. Do your radiator as well. You won't need to take a shower after doing this - guaranteed!:p

Good idea.. I'll have to do that. That's interesting though, yeah with all the people getting upgrade radiators, I don't know of any upgrade oil coolers out there aside from the full-on dual oil cooler kits that are a bitch to install. Seems like just a larger single oil cooler would be a nice thing for us touring/base owners. Anybody wanna make a few bucks?

I was wondering about this as well, and have been trying to find anyone who makes a second oil cooler for the non-R models. Other than the one listed above, does anyone make a kit to convert to dual oil coolers?
