Final Decision, PLESE HELP

I posted a message a couple of weeks ago asking you guys wheter I should sell my Acura CL for an FD. Most of the replies said yes but some seemed to say no because it would be my daily driver, but I love the FD soooo much. The guy I am buying it from has it all stock and has just been repainted vintage red. He has a nine second FD as well and is going pro, so he knew what he was doing with these cars, plus for me. He just bought a truck and enclosed trailer to haul his race car which is why he is selling the stock one to me for $13,000, which I think is a great deal. It is in mint condition, not even a crack or tear or anything inside, and outside hasn't even been waxed yet. So my question to you guys is I found someone to buy my car, so should I sell my Acura, or not. I only need the FD to go about an average of 40-50 miles a day, from school and back and to work. Oh and btw it only has 56,000 miles on it. Sorry so long but this is a huge decision and I know you guys will help me make the right one. Thanks again for all your help

if you want it do it, seems like a good deal. But it really sucks seeing those miles add up FAST.

I passed up buying the Acura TL and bought my FD. Problem is, as you read, it can become a money pit not like a Acura. Fortunatley I don't have money problems but that's a great deal for an FD. I also only commute 5 miles to work and average less than 1000 a month. I guess what I'm trying to say is, get the FD checked out and make sure you have money on the side if something goes wrong. So bottom line... chicks dig FD's alot more

Buy it!! Sounds like a great deal. If you love FD's there's no substitute. So maybe you'll have to get the engine replaced in a couple years. That's ok. The car is worth it. Just keep watching your fluid levels and you'll probably be fine. I love just staring at mine. The style is so perfect that I don't think the car will ever look old. It's a great day today. I'm going to go for a drive

acura or FD?

Hey , whats up!
I would strongly buy the FD ! If that FD that you are looking at is in good mechanical condition(get the compression check by a tuner) buy the car as quicky as you can. I am on my second FD , the first one(93') I bought for $26 and when I sold it 6 years later, I was still able to sell it for $17.5k, not bad considering it had 65k miles on it. I kept it in prestine condition, with only the best fluids. I strongly recommend using premium fluids in every aspect of ANY car, its cheap insurance. It will hold its value way better than that Acura. And its more unique. Majority of the problem with the FD is that people are not educated with the car and its characteristic. However, once the car is understood, the car can be a very reliable source of fun and excitement. When every you get a performance car that produce toward 300+horsepower, there will be reliability issue, period. Drivers tend to drive it much harder than a 300 HP sedan. I remeber not too long ago when at the drag strip, people would pull out their drag machine from a trailer and ran 12.xx pass. And later that evening break the motor down for rebuilding. The FD can do that all day long ,if the modds are correct, And still drive home in time for dinner. Nuff said.

I bought my 94' touring 2 years ago for $22k with only 18k on the odometer, it too was in flawless condition, no dents, scratches, or even chips! it was in the show room at a used Mazda dealer ship with a sign saying"don't touch". It was awesome! I wish I took a picture of it just sitting their. There is something about a car being inside a building that just looks awesome! I don't know if is't the lights or what! I have been looking for this car for several months, well actually, I was looking for a 95' white R2 but it was way too difficult and I was losing patients!

I believe that if you do your homework and ask a lot of questions before you do any mods, you will be a very happy FD witness, heeheeh, that is witness the balance between power and handleing.

good luck with your search

Come on guys I need more opinions this is a huge decision. Do you guys love the FD enough to give a dependable Acura up for? I do, but I have never had an FD before you have, so let me know. Thanks for all the input

Your acura has served its purpose, a savings account that drove you around until you found the car of your dreams. This is it man, they arn't getting any younger, and they are not getting any less miles on them. I picked mine up several years ago with 89K on it (2nd motor) for $17k. I love this car, and so will you.

Ask yourself this: Does your acura make you look back when you park it, or make you double take every time you see its tail lights? I think not. You will kick your self if you don't do it. Drive the car, smell the car, and smile every time you lower yourself into the deep bucket seats. Do it.

I drove my friends last night and damn I love that car, I didn't want to get out of the damn thing. They had to force me out of it. He is in the 11's and has got a body kit with a big *** alluminum wing. Talk about people staring at me. And for the first time ever a I pulled up next to a new Camaro and he wouldn't even make eye contact with me, and he wouldn't even try to f@#k with me. I love the respect that I felt in that car. Well fellas the car comes out of the paint shop today, and I will make my decesion after I drive it. But for only $12,500 with brand new formula red paint job, bone stock, and only 56,00 miles on this car I think this forum would kill me if I didn't get it. So thanks for all your help, you guys are nothing like Supra owners. Much love

G

I had a 3rd gen for a daily driver and got lucky with hardly no problems. I ended up selling it. Now i have a daily driver and another 3rd gen for a hobby. Bottom line is I loved the car so much I had to get another One!! P.S. The first i got rid of because of the mileage. Get the FD and maybe a scooter or cheap bike to put the miles on!!!!G...

Like the one post said, if you have money, do it. And a second car does not hurt. That stuff about doing good maintainance and knowing what your doing is great IN THEROY. My experince has been the FD is a tough car to keep running . If something does break it costs $$ and sometimes takes a while to get repaired.

Get rid of the acura. No fun in that car. I use my fd as a daily driver and have no problems yet. I think it is a great everyday driver. U just have to devote more time to the car. Check fluids and do some cooling mods. After that, u'll have no more fun in any other car. I love mine and will never sell it, no matter how much it costs.

If any of us would rather have a dependable Acura we would sell our FD's and buy one. I would spend the $ to have the car checked out no matter how good the car looks. Spend a couple hundred doing a compression test on the motor and coolant system. If it comes out good buy it and enjoy!!!
The car is more $ to maintain than a Acura but its not that bad. You just need to have it checked out for low compression, thats where all the expense comes from.

Later,

Thumbs up Buy that ***** now :)

Man, that sounds like an insanely good deal. I bought my R1 New Year's Day of '99 (for $18k w/only 28k miles on it, bone stock) and put ~35k miles on it in two yrs before the engine failed due to bad coolant seals. That *only* happened b/c the previous owner overheated it. Now I have a nice, new ported motor and am happy as a pig in **** .

Remember, you only live once man...

I sold my '96 Acura Integra last year...

...to buy this '94 FD

And I'm ABSOLUTELY glad I did (although the FD is not my daily driver). I drive it only once or twice a week. But if I lived down south I wouldn't be afraid to trade the CL for the FD. Just be faithful with the maintenance and the RX-7 should treat you well.

Nice rims dude. Do you have a close up of those rims? What are they and where did you get them? How much do they weigh?

Thumbs up

All these guys are right, Go with the FD. Daily driver isn't so much the problem. Just make sure you get a compression test and test the boost when your driving it. I have had a few problems with my FD. It's not my daily driver but if I didn't toy with it so much it could be. It's so much fun to drive and I drive it every day I can. Just remember the car isn't so practical. If there is any way for you to get a $500 beater in the next few months go for it. There is a lot of things you can do in a beater that I wouldn't imagine putting the 7 through.

Petros
petrosc,

They're RacingHart Type C2's.
17 x 8.5 Front
17 x 9.5 Rear
Unfortunately, I purchased them fron SavasTire.com out of California. Bastards ripped me off. I didn't receive the center locking nuts ($100ea) or the stems ($10each) for my wheels. I also only received two centering spacers instead of four. They basically said "tough ****". I ended up ordering the parts through another retailer out of Philidelphia (unfortunately I can't remember the name). They offered awesome service. You can contact:
Dazz Motorsports
to help you find a good retail outfit that can order them for you.

Here's a close-up. I'm not sure what they weigh but they are heavier than the stock 16's.

Red face

Get the FD. My R1 has been a dialy driver for 3 years, and my only car. I love it. I have put 25,000 miles on it over the past 3 years though, but oh well. I'll be getting a Toyota truck soon to use as my daily driver though.

shure.

ask every person on this board and they will tell you the same thing. GET IT! its an rx7 forum. everyone here is in love with their rx7's. and me.. i would say yeah! go get it! good deal. i also driven a CL and my friend has one. those things are quick. consider it. ask anyone here, they would trade a CL for a FD anytime of the day. thats how much we love our cars. .. like a second lover.. so get it.. you know you want it. if you don't , you probably wont find another one like this. and you will regret it! my two cents
