Does anyone consider an FD a exotic car?
The other posts are right - the FD is not an exotic - it priced out in the mid-high $30K range with a few over $40K - that's not exotic. To me anything that costs over $150K is exotic. Even an NSX or Viper with their looks are not exotics. Although around here I get gawked at like my FD is an exotic - I don't mind - some people don't know what the heck it is since there are none around here.

Well yes the Aztec is exotic...but not in a good way. Not only that but the only thing exotic about it is its looks. The Rx-7 has the motor, the weight, the looks, the everything! Besides, people mistake my car for exotics like Ferrari so couldn't that mean it might be in the same class? I mean it must mean something when people get wide eyed
and ask what type of car it is. You won't get that with Mustangs or Vettes...only exotics

In today's society, "exotic" means somebody paid a **** load of money for a vehicle they don't understand but looks cool.
There are very few people who know how to drive their "exotics". Everyone knows these people buy these types of cars because of image.
I don't really like Porsche's due to their shape (they look like eggs...) but I still have a lot of respect because of their performance. There's no way I would spend that type of cash for a car that looks like an egg. I don't care how "exotic" it is.
Our 3rd gen's aren't "exotic" by that definition. They are exotic because very few people own one. Not alot of them around. That's what exotic should stand for.
I still use sports car because the FD isn't the type of car you have to baby because you don't want to break parts that will cost you tens of thousands of dollars. Sure, if you start modifying incorrectly you'll end up spending thousands of dollars to get the engine replaced. That's still better than getting a Ferrari or Porsche serviced.
Plus you can push your limits and the car limits without having to worry about the expensive parts that some of the "exotic" cars have to worry about.
In my eyes the FD will be exotic by dictionary definition. But it will always remain a sports car due to the fact that you can have a lot of fun with minimal expense.
Actually I still prefer to call it my "race" car....

This is a key point though. I think we all know what our cars are, the question is how do you define exotic. It seems that many change the definition when it comes to different things like cars or women. I choose not to and look to the straight forward dictionary definition because in my mind there is no other creditable definition. I challenge any one of you to present a creditable definition and cite the source to back up these ideas of what an exotic car is. At that point I will be proved wrong. Until then I say the Webster definition stands
BTW I love talking smack on such a small point lol. So please just take what I say with a grain of salt if it starts to offend you.cvs
Exotic or not, my FD runs fast without the extra weight and $$$$.
I careless about the exotic distinction. However, I hope that it will become a classic. Keep in mind that stingray or SS or 68 mustang are classic cars and they didn't cost 1/4 million dollars. I consider the 1 st gen and some 2nd gen classics bc they mark a different direction in the history. I recall the RX7 being on C&D or R&T's top 100 car list in 2000.
To me, that's more important. As time passes by, I hope my FD will enter into the history books as one of the best sports cars in the height of the 21 century.

I don't think any japanese car is. Though they are my favorite. Exotics are more like the $250,000 Italian cars. I think some Porsches are. High end 911 and 959 and such. Not all of them though.
I don't get it. What makes a particular car exotic? The country of origin? The price? The pedigree line? I don't see why just because a car costs $250k it's an exotic. Why can't an American or Japanese car be an exotic if it has all the same or better qualities of a European counterpart?
If I had to define an exotic, I'd say it's one with a thoroughbred line of cars, kicks most any ***, isn't common, not necessarily costs 250k, timeless design, & not necessarily have a fancy European name with a ridiculous price tag. Hey, that sounds like my FD!

Acually, there are very few exotics in this world. They are only the cars that had a very very limited production number, such as McLaren F1's and Vectors. Just think, to us a Ferrari, maybe Porsche, Bugatti's cars of that nature are unusual, and "Exotic" over here. But over there in Italy, England, and Germany, these cars are normal everyday driven vehicles. They see hundreds and thousands of them. So if you think logically, there may be 5-10 exotic cars in this world that are highly priced and exotically built. My favorite by far are Aston Martins, just cause there frames are built from one piece of aluminum ingot.

Jeez, I saw a new Bentley "R" today pulling into Walmart and I thought that was pretty exotic. Guess it depends how old you are.... A Bentley "R".......ROTFLMAO. Pretty soon they'll have clear tail lenses for them too!
I'm just curious. What would it cost to buy a 7 in Japan. If they sold the car in the states today, what do you think it would cost?
I know back in 93-94 they were around 34,000. Car prices have jump since then. Do you think they would be in the 50 or 60's now?
