if anyone saw my thread in the lounge - you're caught up on what happened... if not, the skinny is that a valet broke my moonroof while attempting to retrieve my keys from within my locked car (as opposed to using a slim jim).

Well.... I took the car to Mazda today... they said that the parts have to be ordered individually and don't come as a set, and by the time they fix everything that's broken (the rails, the tracks, the gears, the wires, etc.) the bill with labor will rock my boat at right around $3,000. yes... three thousand dollars.

what a load of crap. I should have bought a pinto and been happy.

Oh well, I'm not even dealing with the valet or the hotel any more. I have an incredibly compitent insurance company that always gets what they want and I'm sicking them on the valet first thing in the morning.

I would try to find a boneyard that might have a third gen and try to get those same parts that mazda qouted you, but used... BTW, are you going to have to pay for this??? That's alot of god damn money...

 

No, I'm going to file a claim with my insurance company... they will, in turn, sue the pants off of the valet company (well, recover damages anyway). If and when they win, that will pay my deductible. If for some unknown reason, they don't win, I'll be stuck paying $500 (my deductable).

I thought about going to a bone yard for the parts... don't know how easy they would be to get out - mazda says it's $800 worth of labor to take out the broken and replace with new... I'll deffinitely look into it tho.

 

Good luck BrianK, I would do the same. Apparently the roof tracks are very expensive.

When I purchased a used '89 RX-7 years ago, the roof was broken and wouldn't retract. Mazda quoted me about the same price back then as you just got quoted for your 3rd gen.

When I got my '93, the roof was malfunctioning, so I had them fix it completely before I gave them the check.

 

...buy an R1 and you won't have to worry about a sunroof .

Actually, I like my sunroof.

That is one thing I miss from my '95 300zx that I used to have which was the T-Tops. For some reason I've always loved T-Tops and Targa's..
