Question good question

Hey,

I was wondering the same thing actually. I have a black 89 tII.

Definitely picking up the zaino claybar but wondering if I have a clear coat or not.
Anyone know where to find this out?

/F.

I have some parts sheets from a body shop. I know this info is on them. So I will post something first thing Monday, because I'm not to sure about the 89-91 cars. The 86-88 cars did not have clear coat unless it was a metallic paint. I did my research on this forum, them confirmed it with my part sheets. I also purchased the Zaino product - this was my exact question!

Hey fastrotaries.

Zaino makes high quality finishing products...i.e. show polish etc.

What has worked for me in the past...

Wash & dry
Use a good pre-cleaner (Liquid Glass (the real one) or Zaino precleaner
Use Zaino Claybar Z-17
Use Zaino finishing wax
Detail as necessary

Your car will look like a million bucks

Sorry for the delay, but here is the paint run down:

According to the body shop manuals I have for 86-91 it states:
"All metallic colors are base coat/clear coat. All non-metallic colors are single stage."

Here are the colors from the Mazda RX-7 Showroom Brochures for each respective year:

86 - Dover White, Pure Red, Arctic Silver (M), Tornado Silver (M), Satin Gold (M), Royal Maroon (M), Saphire Blue (M)

86 1/2 - same as above, but Brilliant Black was added for the Turbo model only

87 - Noble White, Sunrise Red, Arctic Silver (M), Tornado Silver (M), Satin Gold (M), Royal Maroon (M), Saphire Blue (M), Brilliant Black (Turbo only)

88 - Noble White, Crystal White (10th AE only), Sunrise Red, Arctic Silver (M), Tornado Silver (M), Satin Gold (M), Claret (MC), Saphire Blue (M), Brilliant Black

M= Metallic and MC = Mica

I do not have the 89-91 brochures. Perhaps someone else has them and could post them. This might be a good thing to archive.

Hope this helps

Talking Finishes...

Ok...so likely then brilliant black never came with a clearcoat from 86-88? Hmmm...still not quite sure. I have an 89' I wonder if anyone else will be able to comment..
