First rebuild + port started on very first try. No leaks or anything. Later on, however, I found out I had stabbed the CAS incorrectly and had retarded timing. No wonder the car felt sluggish

Engine still running strong in my friends car, no issues still. FSM was the biggest help, Atkins video gave a visual of a couple things I was unclear about. After the first build, though, all I've needed was the FSM each time after.

My first rebuild is still in progress. The engine is in parts in my garage I speak. So far, the main problem I had was that I didn't have an engine stand, so I took it apart on the garage floor. It went ok except that the housings didn't break apart in the order they were supposed to. This might have been in part because I forgot to take out the front woodriff key. Anyway, an engine stand would have been a huge help. Also, label everything. I have tons of zip-lock baggies of parts and masking tape with letters on connectors cross-refferenced to sheets of paper.
I was also like dDub: I mainly used the FSM with the Atkins video providing visualization on a few things.

so if you read up a lot and watch the atkin vid it should go smoothly , i am having thoughs in doing mine i just cant pay 3000 to get my engine rebuilt /ported...when its a s4 t2 but my car is a s5

i was thinking of buying a 13brew engine from a friend and slowly build it until it my s4 goes

in that time i can get my haltech, manifold, turbo and parts needed to fit the beast

i rather spend 4000.00 in the 13brew ecu,manifold,turbo
than spend 1200.00 for an s5t2 plus rebuild/porting 3000.00 ...and i am still out of a stand alone and stuck with that damn hitachi

does this make sense

lol...

I still haven't started my rebuilt engine yet. I'm hoping it doesn't fly apart or implode on itself, causing a black hole that will end the universe.

Still have a few broken parts that need to be replaced, a few more hoses to connect, and I need to replace whatever electrical parts (hopefully fuses) I blew when I hooked the battery up wrong. But I can't do that until I get home again.

I suggest you don't do a rebuild yourself unless you have a LOT of free time, and you don't have to drive your car for a GOOD while, so that gives you more time to do everything METICULOUSLY. I mean, a surgeon-clean tear-down, reassemble, and install.

You also need time to break the engine in, so I wouldn't suggest trying to rush it in order so you can make it to a track event a month down the road, or something.
