Yet another idle gremlin thread

Iv searched Idle FAQ and went through the appropriate steps to find out why my idle is weird. So far no fixes. Heres the skinny..help me diagnose my car PLEASE!!

Engine at cold start stalls unless held on the gas pedal for a few min.
(when engine holds idle, there will be no other hard starts until its completly cold again)

Idle is a steady 650-700 (seems really low) with a very noticable misfire, the misfire is present all the way up to 2500rpm.

The misfire also shakes my engine like crazy (probably due to worn engine mounts)

There is a loud clicking sound coming from the left side of the engine.

VERY bad smell of hydrocarbons sitting at idle, almost so bad it burns your eyes sitting in the car.

So far...i have;

checked that the TPS is working properly and adjusted within spec.
Used the propane/starter fluid trick and no revs were present
Attempted to find vac leaks..no good so far.
Cleaned out injectors, replaced fuel filter & FPR, new plugs, new wires
regrounded out all my engine grounds (fixed hesitation at 3.8k)
Compression check is good, a bit lower than id like it to be..but its within spec.
Checked all fuel lines for leaks (none found)

**note** Car is a 87 TII with no emissions left, with stock exhaust, TurboXS BOV, and RB FCD, Throttle body mod.
There is no loss in power, drives fine especially under boost, when i push it the smell of gas becomes REAL bad. Gas milage is extremly bad, getting roughly 10mpg.

any ideas? im thinking O2 sensor might need to be replaced..as its probably a good idea to do it anyway regardless..maybe the cats are the demons behind my problems? Ticking noise irritates me. someone said i have a lose side seal.

hi

i think the ticking is from your injectors.
maybe they open to long and so they inject too many fuel.
install new or used ones and the car should run better ;-)

My car has a similar issue. I say issue because I don't consider it a problem. when the car is cold I have to keep my foot on the gas for a little bit until it warms up. I have all emissions removed along with a few other mods. check your coolant temp sensor since it is a large determining factor in the afr when the engine is cold. and check the bacv. that might need adjustment.

There are one or two threads in the archives about idle problems, but I haven't seen one main thread that covers all of the different types of idle problems that would easily let anyone fix their cars. I have written several informative and helpful posts about idle concerns, but none that made it to archives. And to try to find anything by using the search function, you might as well grab a beer and forget about it.
