Smile yes, another STARTING ques. SORRIE :)

Ok,

heres whats happening. I did all the standard unflooding methods, used ATF, etc. so, finally got it to start but it jumps up to only 2000 RPMs for like 15 seconds, then drops down below 1000, then shuts off.

Then, cant get it to start again, no matter what i did. so, i decided to pull tha fuel pump connector in tha back, then went to crank, and it started, so i ran back to plug it back in, but then dies b4 i can get it more fuel. but when i finally can plug tha plug back in while it is running, it still dies out.

SO??>..what do you professionals think??

88 GXL by tha way...sorrie so long...this may seem trival, but im new here, so give me some slack

When is the last time the fuel filter was changed? Can you hook up a fuel pressure gauge?

I'd suggest makeing a fuel cut switch that you will be able to hold in your hand as you start the car. Right now it seems to be a flooding problem among other things, so if you had the home made cutoff switch in you hand and turned to off, as soon as the car catches you could turn it to on in a heart beat, and keep the engine running. There is a relay under the dash you can usel or you can make one that runs to the connector that you disconnected for the fuel pump. If you use that one, just cut the large blue wire a couple of inches from the connector, run one half of the blue wire to a switch from RadioShack or the autostore and the other half of the blue wire to the same switch but on the other terminal on the switch. The switch should be just laying anywhere that you can pick it up and manipulate it while starting the car. You'd have to buy enough wire to reach from the back of the car to the front. Not a big deal to make. Just remember its the blue wire on the connector. You can scrap the sw later or make a place for it up front permanently. Or I'm sure someone on this forum will give instructions on how to run one from under the dash from the cut relay that is there. Seeing as how you know where the fuel pump plug is, just do what you're familiar with right now. Oh, about the oil metering pump. Your car has the totally mechanical one and it cannot effect starting in any way shape or form. The newer cars have an electrical type that has some sort of limp dick mode. Not your car.

Also check the AFM plug, and for a large vacum leak somewhere. Especially the line that goes from the manifold to the pressure sensor thing on the right shock tower.

i was just thinkin, would the idle adjustment screw have any effect of this???...because on mines, it is turned all the way down, which means, maximum RPM at idle.
