Yes another rebuilt motor starting problems.

Okay so Ive let her idle at 1500rpm for at least 5 hrs. all together now. Drove it for the first time and it was nice ofcourse with all the syptoms of a rebuilt. But anyways everytime I shut it off, it doesnt want to start back up! Is this normal? and if so should I drive it more now or let it sit and idle? How long do I have to put up with this because I have gone through 2 sets of Leading plugs already. Havent touched the timing because its still jumping around but do you guys think this is causing the engine to knock? Ive notice it seems to get a little queiter everytime I get it start again but its still there. Im gonna post a vid soon and hope you guys can give me some pointers. Thanks.

Found out the problem why it knocks today at the shop. We pulled out the oil pan and see copper shavings everywhere and the guys say its a bearing that went bad. So from searching on the site I assume its the front bearings on the e-shaft. It was exactly the main bearing on the front stationary gear. The reason I think it went bad was because when I pulled out the thermostat pellet there was no retaining spring. Second opionions on this? Got parts ordered but wont get it till next week which sucks. One problem solved hopefully. If anyone here wants to see some pics on how I went about it let me know. Thanks RX7CLUB for being so informative.

That is what I would like to know.
I had similar problems. My Atkins rebuild was a bitch to fire up. I installed a fuel cut switch.

Hm...sorry to hear that. If it was the rotor bearing, plan on needing a replacement rotor, and possibly both adjoining irons, as well as an e-shaft and probably the other 3 bearings in the engine. IF it was a main bearing, you might only need a stat gear, eshaft, and bearings, but it's hard to know without a full teardown. IT is possible you dont need anything but a shaft and bearing, but that's best case scenario and not what I normally see.

To answer your other question, it's normal for a rebuild with used housings to flood on hot start, due to low compression. Remember, they are weak when first assembled (depending on housing condition) and must build up over time/mileage. You see drastic improvement by 2000 miles in most cases, but some engines/housings never climb fully out of the threshold of flooding on hot start. IF this really bothers you, you may consider a newer/new set of rotorhousings to help get you above that threshold.

Someone else did and it was by some shop. Havent got the papers yet from previous owner. Im starting to worry on how the motor is gonna handle. It was a good deal and I guess you get what you paid for. But if it does all go to hell Im slowly rebuilding another motor myself.

Thanks for the info. Thats exactly what I dread rotaryresurrection, a full teardown. So I cant just put a new bearing on the stat. gear? I will be posting a short vid on how it was knocking and hopefully the problem can be more easier to troubleshoot.

Finally, got the video. Its kinda long but towards the end is the warning/alarm buzzer noise. Gonna fire her up tomorrow after replacing the front main bearing and hopefully that was it.

Thanks guys for the help so far.
