YAY, I found the problem...

Alrighty, on the right side of the engine when you're facing it, above the spark plugs, theres a wiring and vacuum hose bundle. The blue plug on the very right of it, the one closest to the firewall, was unplugged. I have no idea what the plug does, but as soon as I plugged it back in the car went to idling great again.

I'm gonna go take her for a quick spin and see how she does, maybe grab some fuel system cleaner or something.

Now there appears to be another problem though, I'll bring that up later...

Shook the car down a bit and it runs great!

Found my favorite parking lot that has little raises sections to separate parking isles, it's set up kinda like a slalom, and ran through there a few times and it feels wonderful. Thank God I have my car back now.

Later on tonight I'm gonna go race down my favorite backroad.

Yo,

Congrats!! I told you to be hush hush on NA reliability issues...how're we supposed to brag about it if you're yelling?! *grin* Just kidding, that's good it was minor. Just imagine if you had an FD. 2 week wait to get INTO a shop, then 2 months there. Enjoy your rental car!! *grin*

When was the last time you replaced the O2 sensor?

Hey right on Michael! . My car is still not done yet. I had a small diffculty with the engine before it coulde be installed. That was taken care of now all I'm waiting for is Ivan to finish up his current project so he can put my new motor in. God it's gonna be great! Streetport!!! Really though I'm glad yours was something small and didn't cost you anything. Keep us posted on what the new "bugger" is

I think it has a lot less to do with n/a reliability than it does with me having clumsy hands.

Now the problem appears to be mysterious loss of coolant. I hope it's just a leak I haven't been able to track down. I'm not sure what the signs are of a water seal going bad.

sidenote: mmmmm, pizza rolls rock...

Last I check I got ~25 mpg, so I've never changed the O2 sensor. If it's still about the same I'll leave the O2 sensor alone for now.

What difficulty were you having Sully?

Mykl,

To check for bad water seals, open your coolant fill cap and fill it up(car cold of course). Crank teh car over and watch to see that coolant does not gush up like a guyser. IF it remains basically stable xcept for a couple of drops caused by the engines vibration, then youre fine. Might hae air in the system, or a loose hose. Check those small ones around/behjind the TB too. Good luck!

Could be the water pump, mine leaked for a little bit then it went bad. See if it leaks from the front of the water pump, out of the weep hole.

I love free fixes, or near free fixes; I ressurected my 83 that way about 4 times

As far as the coolant goes, if it was an internal engine coolant leak, you'd either have gasoline smell in your coolant, or smoke in your exhaust; that is if it was leaking enough to be noticable.

Good luck!

That is the relief solenoid valve (blue connector)and is part of the secondary air injection control system, which helps to clean the exhaust gas by introducing fresh air into the exhaust port and main converter.

It and the switch solenoid valve (grey connector)can be the cause of a rough idle.

Ah, okay. Thanks for telling me what that thing was. I wasn't sure. Now I know what happens when I have that thing unplugged.

It would have made it much easier to track down if it had flashed a check engine code. Ah well...
