wth is this thing for?

When i was taking my wiper reservoir out yesterday i found this strange elongated oval cannister with a tube sticking out under the car, looking from the front of the car it would be right before the reservoir, it had a tube that ran all the way into the engine, is this something for emmissions or what is it?

Leave it on if you still have the airpump. My friend took his off and it sounded like another motor was running .

If you have the airpump, keep it. I ripped mine out when the airpump came out.

You have to remove the cats if you want to remove the airpump. Otherwise you'll be forced to remove clogged cats shortly after.

Iowa. No emissions. One of the few reasons to ... really the only reason to move here.

Just to nit pick, but all the hybrids still have cats.

To the original poster, that is the pipe to the air silencer. There are emissions removal instructions in the archives, if you wish to do so.

Really? I live in VA just south of DC and we have emissions testing here. I thought it was up to the state to mandate what it's emissions standards are.
