WTF is wrong with this....

My buddy and I were working on his car and with the SAFC2 showing throttle %, it showed 30% throttle at idle. I'm thinking... thats not right at all. It was rich as **** and it flooded everytime u shut it off. It would idle at around 500-600 and sputtered a lot.

So I decided its time to adjust the TPS... got it VERY close to 1kohms.... and tried again. SAFC was showing 2% throttle at idle now, it ran at 750 RPM at idle +-10 according to the SAFC... it is also very smooth now.. doesn't flood, its running great!!! Its a reman with about 200 miles on it.

Anybody know whats wrong.. I don't understand why its running so good... aren't these motors supposed to idle like crap all the time, I dont get it.

Edit: Just a side question. This car has no vac rack, or anything really. It has about 3 vacuum lines. Now according to the boost gauge.. at idle the vacuum is 10. Shouldn't it be lower? Im thinking theres a small leak somewhere. But its not affecting idle!

That's because most of us don't post when our idle is fine.

The SAFC should self adjust the range of the TPS input after it gets cycled a few times..... What year is the car?????

It is an 87, when it initially fired it was at about 33.3% throttle, after driving a bit it was at 29%. It learned a little, but the TPS was at about 1.42 instead of 1.00, so it was off quite a bit.

I think most people dont post useless threads, like "My car idles fine" or "What the hell is wrong with this my car idles fine".

The SAFC should have been turned to ETC and then to SENSOR CHK. Then you should have seen 1VOLT as the tps voltage IF it was set right. If you did not see 1VOLT , you should just get under the hood and turn the tPS screw til the SAFC shows 1VOLT. The ECU should be seeing an output from the TPS of 1VOLT when the tps is set right. It's in the FSM.

I set the tps according to ted's site. I believe ted to be correct. He is a god.

All hail the good idle thread!
