wtf? welded on cat?

well i was going to replace my cats, with racingbeat's cat replacement pipe prescliencer combo, and my last cat is welded at the flange to the y-pipe flange.

is this a normal thing? you think i could just cut off the weld with a hacksaw or cut off wheel? and the y-pipe will be ok

no its not a normal thing but it was prob leaking or when someone had new cats put on the car they just had it welded on vs bolting it on. i dont know how bad the weld looks you might be able to cut it off and use some bolts to put on your new stuff or you migh thave to take it to a muff shop and have a new flange put on. eric
