WTF stuck oil filter

ok so i was in a pinch and used a bosch "premium" oil filter. well, i went to put an oem one on and the bastard is stuck. i tried three different types of filter wrenches, finally using the band type and i crushed the thing. it looks like an hour glass. ive tried everything i can think of until i slipped off the screwdriver that i drove through it and took off my fingernail... any suggestions?

vice grips?
sometimes hammering at it will release it, it is just stuck on the block probably because you didnt lube up the sealing O-Ring before you put it on before... the little bit of lube on the o-ring will prevent it from sticking to the engine block.

oh well.

you can pound it off witha hammer and a driver or a screw driver, little bit by bit to get it to start rotating off, just be careful to NOT ding the mating surface on the engien block.

good luck man.

I always have this problem on my car no matter what brand I use or how loose I put it. It usually takes me a while and two people, but like ^ said, grab that bitch with some huge vice grips.

I like the screwdriver method, it works well. Rubber mallet works to knock it loose also.

coudn't get it off period. I fucked it all up, and shredded it. i tried screwriever, screwdriver and hammer, screwdriver and mallet, vice grips, everything. got to the point where i took the pedestal off and took a sawzall to the damn thing. I put vac hose on the studs and put it in a vice and tried everything again. still nothing. i cant even believe this. I oiled the rubber and everyhthing. i quit. NEEDED: S4 TII oil filter pedestal. pm me

I have never used a bosch oil filter and amazingly i have NEVER had this probem, ever. funny, seeing how I have changed my own oil since i started driving, this is a first. how did this happen?

did you lube the gasket and the threads before putting the bosch filter on?

Bosch oil filters are just Purolators with the Bosch label on them.

Reason you didn't use the OEM Mazda filter?

^ yup im a dumbass, i knew better but i was in a pinch and needed to get somewhere, the only parts store had just the bosch for the rx. i had a case of oem being shipped to me. i should have waited but i wasn't thinking, the car had been sitting for quite some time and my dd broke down, i had thrown the filter out before going to the parts store. it was a bad day...

p.s. i did lube EVERYTHING, as always.

This is a little off track but where are you getting a case of oem oil filters from? I have been looking online but I keep coming up short. It is just to muck of a pain in the *** for me to drive to the Mazda dealership. Thanks.

Atkins has 'em...

But concerning the oil filter problem, Probably your best bet right now is to remove the whole pedestal. I had the same issue with the first oil change on my Supra after the rebuild, I dunno if that had anything to do with it, but we finally got it off after spraying a buncha oil around it the base of it. I've always wondered if we coulda used a little bit of PB's around the bottom of it, but I was afraid of getting it in the system... If you've exposed enough of the inside (if you haven't, just peel it back) Try to use some vice grips on the core and see if you can't turn it that way... And spray some oil in there...

Are those oem filters? On their website is says "Fits all Mazda Rotary Cars - OEM Quality". If they are made by Mazda I will just get those. Do you know for sure?

I've never had problems with the Bosch filter, assuming you lubed the threads and the gasket, and warmed up the car before removing the oil filter?

Atkins and Mazdatrix both sell OEM Nippon Filters. Nippon makes the OEM Mazda filter.

sears has these grip things that tighten as you turn loosen. there 3/8 drive. so regardless of the shape of the filter, that ****** will keep tightening. there only like 10 bucks.

Autozone also has ^^that oil filter wrench but it's only $5 or $6. They work amazingly well.

There's a bosch filter on both my cars right now, I think. I've never had a problem with them.

did you tighten the filter with a wrench originally? You never ever tighten it with a wrench, youll never get it off.

Secondly, are you rsure youre turning it counterclockwise, lol.
