wtf, problem with door lock all of a sudden?

Hey all,

My passenger door lock didn’t work today, I had locked it the previous night, picked up my friend, so I unlocked it. The when we parked at this mall I tried to lock it again and it wouldn’t go, I had him shut his door and I tried to push the lock down. No go. I tried opening door, holding the latch open and locking it, I tried using the key, but it won't turn either way.

I cannot fathom why a lock (which to my understanding is a most durable mechanism) would begin to fail like this, it is no big deal I can go get it fixed but that would cost me money and perhaps parts.

Any ideas? Maybe it is like temporarily messed up? hahaha

Thanks

take your door panel off and look to see if it is hitting or getting hung up on anything take a look at the threads at the end of the push ros to see if it moved good luck

If you take off the door panel, look around for a tiny little spring laying down in there somewhere (should have a plastic sleave over it). I remember exactly where it goes, but when it comes off it will cause that problem.

It happened to both doors on my 86 n/a.

You will notice two places for the spring to hook on. The spring is only like 1" long max

It may nopt be that, but it sounds exactly like what happened to mine. - Well.. Mine got stuck in the lock position though. ??

well another thing could be the lock froze or seized. I'm not sure what the weather is like in Alberta, but one winter morning there was no frost it was just cold, and i tries to un lock my door and it wouldn't go, i ended up climbing through the passenger seat. Well im driving along checking it occasionally after about 20 mins of the heat being on (I was driving to work) I tested it and voila problem solved itself. I'm guess that spring he's talking about may have gotten frozen, but if I don't know.

Probably frozen water in the lock assembly, next time try pouring hot water on the handle and lock
