WTF?? gear selector spins 360...shifting really notchy

Question WTF?? gear selector spins 360...shifting really notchy

aight guys i took my shifter apart about a year back and found my lil green bushings were tore up and took some of them apart and got rid of parts of them.....so shifting was notchy but no big deal....then tonight on the way home shifting was really notchy and i could barely get it into gears cuz i couldnt find them and the stick will turn around and around like its not connected to anything...i can get it into gear if i really want to but its a pain in the *** cuz my **** turns as it likes...stick and all so guys some help please...thank.....btw i pulled some of it up and looked and there is a metal ring sitting above the rubber boot where it shouldnt be....how the hel did it get there.....

You should have a clip/spring thing that holds the shifter down. If it is broken/not there the shifter can spin in circles and it has to be straight up and down to go into gear.

If the clip was still in there you wouldn't be able to pull the shift **** straight up and out of its "socket". Can you pull it out? You should also be able to see the clip if you remove all the bushings.

aight i just pulled the thing out.....im so tired right now....my lil green bushing rings that were there a year ago are gone...they must have disentigrated...i guess that is my issue......im leaving the country for a few weeks...maybe a good excuse to borrow my fathers vetete until i leave

well this is a pic of the top of the thing.....there is a ring thats on top and all warped out and the rubber peice is torn

There is a small pin that is perpandicular to the shifter shaft that engages a notch in the transmission. This prevents the shifter from rotating. It sounds like yours is missing or broken. If you look into the shifter housing, you will see a matching notch shift rod...

no the lil pin is still there...problem being the shifter can go up and down avoiding that a bit....i think mazdatrix has the bushing kit....

wait .....is this the lil notch thats right in front of the rod or is it somewhere else when u pull the think up...the one right in the center that fits right into the ball of the stick?

This notch is at the front of the hole in the shift rod.
