Exclamation Wtf Did I Do?!?!?

Ok, heres what happened.

I have an S5 n/a and its had a hesitation problem ever since i bought it (2 weeks ago) and my friend and i decided to adjust the tps. So we fabricated one of em testing light thingys and adjusted it, took it out for a drive around the block and it still hesitated a bit when we let of the throttle or barely stepped on it. we figured it could be something wrong with the throttle cable freeplay. So then we tried adjusting that and got confused and gave up. then i went to start the car and it would run for about 1/2 a second and die. we played around with the throttle cable adjuster nuts and the tps adjuster screw and a bunch of other things to try to get it to idle. does anyone have any ideas on what i did wrong. I checked for hoses that i mightve knocked loose but didnt find any. any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Danny

has this car had emissions or AWS removed? if so the previous owner could have been using the throttle cable to set the idle, will the car start and run if you hold the throttle part way open while cranking?

I have no idea if the emissions or aws removed, the previous owner told me the car was stock so i assume that it hasnt. The car will run it just wont idle. after playing with the throttle cable i can get it to idle but very high not at 750-800.

yeah, i would first start by pulling the intake hoses to the throttle body and check them for cracks or leaks. check all vacuum lines to be sure they are still in one piece and if it is a turbo engine, inspect the intercooler hoses for cracks, looseness or cuts.

yeah, it was a vacuum leak. It was one of those hoses on the bottom side of the intake tube thing. well now my throttle cable is super loose, anyone know how to adjust that? i tried adjusting it but it would idle at 4000 rpm. am i supposed to adjust it like that then adjust the idle? i have no clue how to do this and wanted to ask you guys this time so i dont screw something up. thanks for all your help.

there is 2 nuts on the cable to mount it to the bracket, they sandwich the cable to the bracket, loosen both nuts and first tighten the one furthest from the cable itself to take up the slack, leave just enough slack so that the cable does not have tension on it trying to pull on the throttle arm and then tighten the other side nut. use the BAC screw to set your idle and follow the TPS adjustment procedures in the FSM.
