WTF?!?! Boost falling off

This is the wierdest thing, as my revs increase, my boost falls off! I start at about 8 PSI, and as revs approach 5-6000 it drops to 5! And I was solid 8psi last night?

What in the hell is this all about?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Jarrett, are you sure it's the boost? Maybe it's just the plumbing to your gauge... Check that for minor leaks... maybe hook it up with new hardware.

P.J.

I cant see how.. The pressure is higher at low revs, then as the revs increase, it drops. But for kicks, I will go out there and check all connections.

Do you have a boost controller? And you of course have a FCD right?

Yep, everyone has the problem, but like 99 percent of the rest of the threads here, nobody bothers to post what fixed the problem.

J-Rat:

Get/read/understand Corky Bell's book on turbocharging called "Maximum Boost." There are all kinds of reasons the boost drops off. You'll be a Turbo Yoda after you read that book. It's at Amazon.com. Good luck!

Okay, I suppose you little snipes are missing the ENTIRE POINT OF THIS THREAD!

I understand the basic concept of the turbo, and I may have some idea of what may be wrong.

I just wanted some advice as to where to look (ie FC specific). And maybe someone here could relate a personal experience and eliminate hours of guesswork and research.

It could be the stock wastegate actuator opening and bleeding the boost if you dont have a boost controller set to 8psi.

Hey, don't bother getting the book. You've got 2200+ posts. You already know everything. Who jacked into your user name and asked the stupid question, then?

Good Luck.

If I knew everything (which I dont profess too), I wouldnt ask. I started out as an N/A guy and recently changed to a turbo person.

Its real simple... If you dont want to provide assistance, move the **** on.. I didnt ask for your attitude. If you want to be a productive member of the club, then by all means, provide some constructive suggestions. Otherwise, go ******* troll somewhere else.

Yeah, J, I didn't want to be the first to say it. But you've got a shitty turbo. Got it? A shitty turbo.

But just as likely as exhaust leaks, you probably have pressure leaks in your intercooler piping, or several other design limitations in the system. Nothing personal, though. I don't feel like writing chapter to you on all the things it could be. After all, I only have a handful of posts...

I vote wastegate

I am voting wastegate.

Mine does the same (89 TII)

although I do have to re-do the plumbing in my gauge because its kind of messed up

And apparently a big-*** chip on your shoulder. I am the first one to know that post count doesnt mean much. My post count is high, sure, but thats because I have been a member for a long time. I have alot to contribute and have done so for quite some time. That DOESNT preclude me from asking an (apparently) lame question or two from time to time. Your fixation with post counts isnt healty.

If you are as knowledgeable as you profess to be, then maybe you can distinguish yourself from the rest of the kiddies and be helpful. Jumping into a flame war with A low post count only labels you as another pre-teen keyboard racer with some sort of Oedipus complex.

Jarrett, say if you hold the RPMs high at, say, 4k, does the boost stay steady? Is the boost drop directly proportional to RPM? Does it lose boost the same way each time? Any differences between hot and cold?

As you'll soon find out, on this forum, we don't give a flying **** about the number of posts someone has, there's a few select asshat's that go crying home to mom about it, but regardless, I think it's obvious that he's clearly stated that post count has nothing to do with anything, and is treated as such. Continuing, you're not doing much other than trolling right about now, partly becaues you're not helping the cause any, and you're only pissing him off further. Now, either write your chapter you seem so eager to avoid, but yet, replace with a chapter of idiotic trolls, or please, move along to the next thread, preferably one started by 'Mephis'. Thanks.

I havent tested extensively yet. I just noticed it this afternoon. Although the turbo has some shaft play, I wouldnt call it excessive. I have the other S4 motor in the back with a 60,000 mile turbo on it, I may swap that out. Also, after boosting, I smell exhaust like badly, although I cannot locate any exhaust leaks.

Oh well, gonna be tearing the car back apart tomorrow.

Jarrett
