Is that the 12" tall one? Personally I'd rather widen the OEM hoodscoop or swtich to a reverse cowl look.

That scoop doesn't even look good on the WRX. Too big and gaudy looking.

Pix wold help... May change my mind, but to me the reason the scoop works on a Subie is because it's small box set on a couple larger boxes... IMO, there's nothing boxy to be found on a rex, so I just don't see how it can look like anything but a JC Whitney add-on.

Nothing against WRX's, they're killer cars, but the image I have in my mind is kinda like a Pontiac Aztec front-end on a 911...

The STi scoop looks stupid on a WRX and it'll look even stupider on an RX-7...

The stanard WRX scoop is nice and fits the car...the STi scoop is too tall and has a curved inlet shape that is very unattractive.

I happen to think the scoop on the WRX looks pretty good. It fits the car since it's got a pretty aggressive looking front end (with the side intakes, and fog lights), and looks even more fitting on the sedan, since it's got fender buldges. Gives a "muscular" look to the car. Of course, I also own a WRX, and thus would have a biased opinion, haha (it's my wife's car, my car is..what else? FC).

Plus, I think the WRX scoop is a lot more functional than ours. My wife drives her car daily, and you should see the amount of bugs that gather in the intercooler fins! My 87 TII hardly gets anything, period. If that's not enough proof that the WRX's scoop is more functional, I don't know what is.

Looks wise, I do agree it will look awkward on a FC, but anyone thought of making an aftermarket hood that has a SLIGHTLY higher, or wider scoop? This would be good for people who don't want to go front mount, or has an ARC top mount. I would be totally in for one of those hoods.

i think it would turn out pretty cool. if you have some extra hoods, shouldn't hurt to try it.

The scoop should be more functional than our and isn't THAT what matters?

Performance first then looks......

I think the scoop would be just above the low pressure area on the hood which should increase air flow through the IC.

Anybody who says they go for performance over looks, and then suggests a bigger hood scoop instead of a FMIC is kidding themselves. Just admit you want a big obnoxious scoop for people to look at.

So, a big ugly scoop that doesn't fit properly over the TMIC or a FMIC? Gee, tough choice...

this looks kinda interesting... you should set the scoop on top of the hood just to give us a teaser pic.

I seriously looked at this for a long time. Originally thought of a WRX hood scoop to be used on an 84 GSL-SE with an 88 T2 engine. In the end, I thought (along with MANY forum members) it didn't look right on the car and could never bring myself to cut a hole in the beautiful hood.

I went with a FMIC--though it was much pain and agony to install and pipe. It works 1000 times better than a TMIC. Now someone makes a T2 style fiberglass hood for the FB, can't you buy a carbon hood with the T2 scoop in it? IMHO the best two choices are 1) FMIC, and 2) carbon hood with scoop.

If you want performance go with the FMIC for sure.

HTH,

Scott
