Factory plug wires usually only have a life of about 60k miles before they start failing.

Its a good thing to replace the plugs every 15 k miles and the plug wires every 60k miles.

I've always heard rotaries like a strong spark, so yours were probably knackered. I'm getting a set of Magnecor KV85's to replace my failing stock ones and hope to get the same result!
