wow does aux port actuators work?

I am in the middle of a S4 13b swap in my FB...I have the motor in and I'm currently hooking up vac lines and wiring... I've got most of the vacuum lines done but then i saw the little nipples on the bottom of the aux port actuators and I was trying to find where the lines that hook up to them.

Basically I just want to make sure that I put the right line on them so they work properly...I can take pics tomorrow to show what I am dealing with...

I've checked my fsm and hayes manual but it doesn't explain it well

There are no nipples on the actuators.

unless it's a s5 engine and/or manifold

the bottom of the actuators have a nipple thingy...does anything go there?

Where are the actuators getting their vacuum from? If you have pics of the correct setup that would be great

If there's a single metal hardline running behind and to the side of the actuators, it's S4. If the actuators themselves each have their own nipple, it's S5.

They're also not vacuum fed. They require air pressure, which on an S4 comes from the exhaust system via the split air pipe.

I think it takes ~2psi to open them.

I bought them (the actuators) off a member....can the S5 ones work with my S4 manifold?

So the split air pipe connects here? The bigger copper pipe and then that feeds the air to the actuators? Where does the vacuum line go thats below that...is part of this for the OMP...sorry my motor didn't complete so I'm in the dark with some of it

The bottom line that has the hose on it is the pressure source.

Howdy, I've just completed an S4 13B into my FB.

^what Turbo_II_Rotor said. The bottom is the pressure source. On the split air pipe, the top hose after the check valve goes to that inlet behind that copper pipe, and below the check valve there's an outlet that the pressure hose connects to. So you're gonna need an FC split air pipe or modify your 12A one to have an outlet below the check valve.

The copper pipe connects to the brake booster hose.

I don't think S5 actuators will work. They actually push the lever into the open position on an S5 LIM, while the S4 versions pull. I marked the orientation on the picture, so you can see that if the actuator pushes up instead it'll be closing the ports at 3800 RPM. However, I think if you were to take off the LIM and rotate the sleeves, you could make it so they open/close in the opposite (S5) way.

Ok, so I need the S4 split air pipe

I will check into that...I'll take some pics of my setup to confirm if the actuators are S4 or S5

Isn't that a screw for spring tension or something?

"WHAT GOES HERE" gets a big *** rubber hose on the original configuration and the hose goes to a silencer they installed in the right front fender area near the windshield wash bottle. The silencer hushes the honking sound coming out that large *** hole in the ACV.

Kinda shown in the Fuel and Emissions section of the FSM.

BAH not required for proper operation of the ACV or anything else in life. But does help keep the noise down.

yea that is no nipple it is a screw, once you get everything running rev up the engine and you should see the rod that comes out of the top move to open the ports, if you don't see movement around 3800 there is a problem

also if you modify the exhaust at all they won't work, they need the back pressure from the cats and all that crap to operate so if you are going that route you may want to think about going S5 or a RPM switch

My car S4 N/A came with the aux ports blocked off. I have a LIM/Aux ports that im going to install while doing new vacuum lines/gaskets. My car didnt have a cat with the split air pipe. Im about to send money for a cat that is gutted with a split air pipe. Will this affect my ports from opening around 3800 RPM????

SORRY FOR THE THREAD HIJACK

The ports on my NA would not open when I had a gutted main cat in there. Of course, they wouldn't open with a functional cat either . The exhaust pressure method sucks.

The exhaust pressure method sucks.
i think it blows

mine work, I had to replace the front one but they both work now, if you can't move them freely with your hand (cold engine of course) then the actuators are bad or the spring is maybe to tight dunno
