A few questions about installing a cone filter..
I've researched and researched this on the forum for the past couple of weeks and I'm more confused than ever. I found an apexi power intake filter and I buying it right now, but I have no idea what you need to install it. Also, I noticed -read about- a hose attached to the stock air box. It goes to the ?waterpump? or something... I've read way too much about what it goes to. Anyways, I was wondering what you do with this hose whenever you install a cone filter.
My car is a S5 n/a if that has anything to do with how you install them and what you do with the spare hose. I'm going to make a cold-air box sooner or later.....
Anyways, thanks for any input ahead of time and as always; I expect to get flamed for my lack of mechanical knowledge.

I vote K&N drop in, lets more air flow and keeps stock box and snorkel, the snorkel will suck the coolest air it can from OUTSIDE the engine bay, a cone filter will allow all that super heated engine bay heat to get sucked right into the intake, now since it's an N/A that isn't that big of a deal but it still will get you no gains if that is what you are after.
the small cones can be bought at just about any parts store, hell you can get the cone filter there too probably cheaper than most 'kits', the s5 (i think) has a round AFM so the filter should go right on the AFM with one clamp, the s4 is the one that requires the adapter plate
and don't worry about your lack of knowledge, just search and read everytime you have a question, do this alot before posting a question to limit the 'flaming'
good luck bro

I already bought the Apexi power intake cone for 37 dollars on ebay. I figure that even though I will be sucking in hotter air; I will be getting more of it. That should give me a little more power right ?
Doubt it will be noticible, really... but I'll feel that I've done something nice for my FC. Sort of like when you give a fat girl a cookie... It'll just make my car feel like somebody cares.

Given that you have a NA, the cone filter- with or without a "cold air box" (what, you're going to install AC on it?) will have minimal effect, if any. I've always operated on the assumption- yet to be disproved- that the biggest intake restriction is the AFM and until that's eliminated, everything else is relatively trivial.
The biggest difference will be visual and if you like that, then go for it.
