probably might, but u still getting some hot in, cardboard dont really offer any heat protection or keep heat out. You can get a metal shroud or a cold air box kit from mariah motorsports.

That's freakin' retarded...$120 for something that they made from home depot scraps...go to a hardware store spend $10 and make your own...

Anything that guarantees only air from outside the engine bay sees the filter will work........ cardboard and all.

To be fair, the mariah thing looks like its actually custom molded fiberglass pieces, not just home depot parts.
Edit: The second one posted actually comes with a K&N filter, and at 350(USD) its cheaper than the Mariah one that comes with the filter. Doesn't seem like too bad a deal if you need the filter.

Home depot intake

This is a home depot intake:
$5.xx for a roof cover, $2 for urethan pipe .
Pipe insulation seals with hood, roof cover cut to fit around radiator. Needs cold source of air though.
insulation.

There seems to be mass ignorance about what a cold air intake really is. A hacked up Prelude intake pipe or similar is not a "cold air intake". A heat shield, whether a DIY one or overpriced aftermarket one, is not a "cold air intake". A real cold air intake is a complete sytem that both prevents hot underbonnet air entering the engine and provides a supply of outside air at ambient temp without causing too much restriction. If you don't have both of those things, you don't have a cold air intake.

whats the point of doing this?
it looks half assed
infact, it looks like crap...
what will this do? it is not like your NA would suddenly pick up 5 horsepower from it...
only now it looks all crappy...
it probably does an intake sound too when you step on it like every other honda with a short ram

I think it's because we're talking about cold air boxes and not cold air intakes. Notice that the string "Cold Air Intake" is not used in the thread excepy for you'll two's posts.

Actually, mine doesnt give that woosh sound at all with the hood closed.

It's supposed to get rid of the stock intake box restriction by using a larger cone filter . But, if you don't build a cold air box the engine seat is just soaked back up, resulting in worse performance despite greater air flow potentials.

This is exactly the kind of BS I was referring to. There is no such thing as a cold air box without some form of cold air intake. If there's no way for cold air to get into it, it's not a cold air box, it's just a box! It's a simple concept, not hard to understand...

Would cooler air box make the term work more as the box is trying to make sure you're not getting hot engine air. Mine probably has the most intake through the stock tubing, but some other intake from the random holes in the car between the box and the headlight.

O, i'm understanding now, I need that pipe going from the box to the lower bumper or a headlight scoop.
