Would a S5 conversion on a 10AE damage value?

flame all u want, i tried using the search..
anyways

exterior wise, i plan to do a s5 conversion on my 10AE

i will be keeping on 10AE emblems (rear badges and fender rotor badge)

i know, some people may think im destroying the look of a 10AE
but really the only think different from look is the front bumper and tail lights to me..
well, please share ur opinions..

so, would it ruin the value of a 10AE or would it be the same..

oh yea im still going to paint it 10AE crystal white again..

Yes, the change would drop the value down to the same level as any other 88 Turbo

Would a T2 conversion on a black 1990 GTUs damage value? Who cares? Its works better now. Its not like these cars are worth a ton of money. I picked my car up for $1900, so its probably not going to depreciate any more.

Who cares about the resale value, you didnt buy and customize your car to sell it to someone else, you bought it to make your own. I say go for whatever makes you happy. I'm gonna do s5 bumper and s4 trim on my 88t2.

If you're a collector, you'd want to keep EVERYTHING original as possible.
It's your car, do whatever gives you a boner. Don't let anyone tell YOU what to do with YOUR car.

I've got a 10ae that's got pretty much everything done to it. Microtech, 60-1, coilovers, N1 GT-Spec, blah-blah-blah.

To a purist, if they saw how I cut the nose up to the rub line to allow more flow across the FMIC they would probably go bonkers on me (along with all of the other mods!)

AE's are only worth a couple of hundred more than an 88 TII in similar condition.

Screw it just do what you want.
If it was in perfect condition with super low miles then I would say to leave it alone, but if not let the moding begin.

S5 engine & trans and a bunch of other goodies in mine.

actually over the last 9 months, the value of a unmodiffied 10thAE has been about $1000 more than a regular 88 Turbo (on average- across the USA based on registrations and sales- not want ads).

I kind of have to agree with the 'do what you like to your own car' argument. I have had my 10AE for three years now. When I first bought it, I fought with myself as to whether I should keep it stock or throw all my go-fast stuff in it. The fight lasted about 5 minutes. I decided that the car was mine to enjoy. I still intend to keep it 10AE white with black interior, as well as keeping the badges. Beyond that, it has become an R-speed edition as my friend says, because I have changed almost everything about it.

I recently swapped in a 20B. I also have GC coilovers, s5 nose, GT-spec exhaust, FD wheels, RE-Amemiya-style reverse scoop, etc, etc. The car has truly become my own creation, and I wouldn't do it any differently given the chance.

The short version of this post is this: Do what YOU like to your car. You will ALWAYS get grief from some people, but if it's something that brings your car closer to your ideal, then go for it.

I'll be swapping my side marker lights for European-style that have no lights soon, as well as adding an S5 rear bumper. I guess I'm just making it 'worse'. LOL

Have fun!

Reese

wow, your car looka super clean, did you redo the whole engine bay? or is that a very low mileage 10AE?
lol
yea i think im going to modify my 10AE
i've noticed alot of 10AE owners commonly switch the 10ae lights to the S5 tails
which i've done already..
i'll be putting up pics when im done with mine..

Icemark: yea you've made a point, if you look on Ebay, it looks like 10AE's sell for a pretty penny!

if anyone could help me.. i need to prime my s5 bumpers, side moldings, and wing for paint

anyone know which grit i should start with, and what grit i should fine sand it with..
these s5 parts i have are blue so i will have to primer it white haha..

Screw the purists. A 10AE with an S5 conversion would be sweet.

I think you guys are missing the whole point of this trhead with your pro and con posts. The title and question of the thread is "would the change affect value". It does.

Regardless of if anyone thinks it looks cool or crappy...

Of course why anyone would like the S5 lights is also beyond me but that is covered in countless other posts.

The only AEs worth real money are low mileage, pristine OEM ones, most of them aren't worth the collective of all the mods done to them, so do whatever makes you (the cars owner) happy.

There are not enough 10AE's on the market to make a valid conclusion from those statistics.

Any modifications like that will lower the value of ANY car.

The 10AE is only worth big bucks in the minds of its owners, and the suckers that they can con.

Talking 10AE badges and emblems

i will be keeping on 10AE emblems (rear badges and fender rotor badge)

Since you are changing the look and engine, why keep the badges and emblems? Sell them to me!!!!! My sister, orig owner, had the car repainted and the shop 'stole' the badges and emblems. When they went back, the mgr. said they threw them away. So I am looking to replace.

replacement 10AE badges are cheap at the dealer, I paid $23 and change for a pair. (CDN funds)
