would powdercoating ruin an S5 pulsation dampner?

i've got a new noticeable fuel smell in the engine bay of my S5 and wondering if a recent powdercoating of the primary fuel rail could have screwed the PD ??? or if its just my charcoal cannister that smells bad ( vent tube especially)

Ive searched and read most of the PD threads but still not sure about the S5 failure symptoms of the PD. If it failed , where would the fuel leak to ??

this is what i have :

1.S5 , 120,000 miles ( 200, 000 km) but very recent engine rebuild
2.charcoal cannister shows no leaks but stinks and vent tube very strong smell
3.most engine peripheral parts were powdercoated
4.can't see any fuel leaks anywhere , but fuel smell develops , especially after AWS
5. I am replacing charcoal cannister but not sure if I should have PD replaced which is origonalto the car ?

The S5 has a PD.
It's a better design, but can still fail.
You remove the PD & FPR for powder coating.

If you smell fuel, you do have a leak that will catch fire.

The S5s still have a PD built into the fuel rail though and it would have been subjected to 350-400 degrees for about 10-15 minutes during the powdercoating process depending on paint. If it was powderchromed it could have been in there for up to 30 minutes getting baked.

The powdercoating process could have ruined it due to the temps. involved.
Judging by the km's, replace it to be safe.

my secondary rail was powdercoated as well , and the FPR was on there . Also wondering if that would be damaged by the heat ?

i meant the pd is a bit diff than the one on the s4 lol, not that it didn't have one, sorry i should have specified. If they didn't remove the PD when powder coating then most likely the PD is damaged. If you smell fuel, then u should really check on that because a fire could start and thats not good lol.

just a follow up . I finally bought a new fuel rail and charcoal cannister . I swapped the cannister yesterday and drove the car for an hour and the fuel odor in the engine bay is completely gone , Have to admit I'm pretty surprised this fixed the problem as I thought for sure the smell was directly at the PD, even the cannister vent tube did stink.

The old cannister was put thorugh a parts washer when the car was rebuilt and solvent must have gotten in there and really buggered it up and the solvent vapours may have accentuated the odor.

I guess I'll replace the fuel rail and PD sometime later

I'd replace both rails anyway. Besides, you can't even see them that well, or at all, once all the manifold stuff is on.
