Is it worth removing the A.C?

Well it sounds like a tough decision. I have a brand new car with very chilly A.C. and my FC is bearable during hot summer days. However it seems the engine will run better with one less belt and cooler with that condensor out of the way. There is no way I'll part with the power steering. So far I've cut the wieght from 2950lbs stock to about 2840lbs (used an actual scale to figure that one out) and thats a fully loaded S5 GXL with an auto. The steel hood is being replaced with an aluminum TII hood and I would like to drop to 2700ish without losing too much because its a daily driver. I never use the A.C even though it works perfectly because I always have to be ready to whip some ***. Is it going to be a pain really?

My A/C doesn't work so i definitely want to rip it out. I do want to keep the power steering, however. How hard is it to remove all the AC components?

Why have just bearable when you can have comfortable anytime you want? That's the whole point of A/C.

No it won't run better or cooler. The A/C compressor draws practically zero power from the engine when it's off, and the thermostat regulates the engine temp so it stays basically constant regardless of load. There's no way even a modded NA should have any cooling problems because of the A/C unless something's wrong.

That's one of the silliest reasons I've ever heard not to use A/C. First, street racing is frickin' stupid! Second, how hard is it hit one button? And third, the S5's ECU switches the A/C compressor off any time the throttle's more than half open anyway.

I agree with NZ. Even on my old NA FC, when driven hard last summer with AC on near full blast, I only saw the temp gauge go 1/3 up. Compared to 1/4 in its usual position.
