Is it worth removing the A.C?

The A.C. in my car still works perfectly but I can only use it on the freeway and my car dies when I'm not if its on. Still freezing cold but I only use it occasionally. Is it even worth tearing out the A.C. and the condensor? What I mean by worth it is if its only like a 1/10th second faster without it I'll just leave it in. May seem like a repeated subject but I want to know if the performance increase out wieghs A.C.

Your BAC valve is probably the reason your car dies at idle with the A/C on. Check the thing out and you might not have anymore stalling

with all of the AC components removed I think it's around 30 lbs.

when i bought my 7 it had the AC removed. its not bad without out it at all. it does clear up some room and that AC pump thing weighs a ton by itself. go for if you have the free time.

Me personally I can live without it. My car overheats with the condenser in place because of the FMIC hogging all the airflow, so my car doesn't have it. The weight is more around 40lbs with everything removed. That isn't even good for a tenth of a second in the 1/4 mile, but weight adds up.

I'd say getting rid of it is better for freeing up engine space then actual weight reduction.

If your in Texas or any other Hades like climate, and you daily drive the car, you'll sweat your *** off. The wieght reduction isnt always worth it.

I live in Laredo you ever been? None of my three cars since I have driven have had A/c. No biggy. My advice is drive without a/c for a week if you can tolerate it then off it comes if not then keep it. Is it worth it? that isn't a general question. You have to decide.

Never acutally been to Laredo, but I imagine the climate is similar. I should have clarified my statement a bit better. Ive have had vehicles with no ac and it is tolerable, but having working a/c is nice. You are correct, the choice to ditch it or keep it is solely one of personal preference.

Don't forget your passengers, you might be able to live without a/c, but your girlfriend might not.

I've never had A/C in my N/A and its coming out of my TII. I live in south-eastern VA too...humid as HELL here, but it never bothers me much when the windows are down.

Then she can proceed to take off clothes until she is comfortable in that high of temperature.

The AC is there for a reason... =)
because it is HOT under the sun....
my sister used to own an integra.... no AC....
she threw it away quickly.....
my brother paid 1000 in a 1000 MR2 for adding the AC.....
its well worth it =D

i live in WA and its not hot (usually... altho it was 102 the other day... crazyness) but i think i might rip mine out too. i dont ever use it. when i park in a safe place and its hot i ususally have the windows and/or sunroof open so its not that bad. then i just drive off and its ok. the ac uses too much gas for me and it doesnt get as cold as i would like it to. so i might just rip it out.

Keep the AC. You'll see no real performance benefit from ripping it out. As long as your car is properly maintained, you won't have to go in the engine bay too often anyways. And it doesn't decrease resale value.

BTW, this is coming from someone who owned a TII with manual rack/no AC and also owned a PS rack/AC equipped NA FC and TII.

Lowering the windows does not lower humidity, which is the main reason you feel uncomfortable in hot weather. A/C is there to increase comfort. Cool, dry, low-velocity air is far more comfortable than warm, moist, high-velocity air. Plus, nothing defogs windows as quickly as A/C.

But this is still a purely personal decision. Nobody here can tell you how important A/C is to you.

I removed mine because I thought it was bad, but when winter rolled around, i realized I had a bad Logicon. It does sound like you have a bad BAC valve though. I would most definitely keep it, I can feel the heat coming from my engine bay when its 100 degrees out and the windows are down and it really sucks..
