worried about breaks

hey guys.
i was pulling into a parking lot, and i had to slam on my breaks.. long story short, when i pushed the pedal down all the way.. it felt like a "crunch" or.... it also felt like when i was causing break pressure, it felt like i was pulling on a cable, and the cable it breaking.. i dont know how to describe it..

it makes noises when i push the peddle down more than 50 percent.. it feels the same everytime i push it in..

i can hear sounds if i push it down, and my head is out the window..

i know my break pads are getting a little low.. but what does this meen?

-cam

p.s. the sound i hear outside is like.. a clickng sound.. argh.. i cannot describe it any better

please help!

lol the only reason i read this is because you spelled BRAKES breaks. you need to look at your brake cable, start at your pedal and follow it through the firewall to see if it is distorted like some of the wires have broken. have somebody keep pressing the pedal to listen and see it the cable is making the noise. if thats not it, look in your wheel wells at the spot where the brake lines are hung on the strut with that little C clip, if the line has came out then it could be smacking around when it gets pressure in the line. just go have somebody press the brakes and keep listening to see where the noise comes from

Maybe its a Canadian thing to spell brakes that way... like they spell Gauges as Gages.

There are no brake cables, except for the emergency brake. The pedal has a rod that pushed against a piston that is in the master cylinder.

It sounds like your brakes are badly worn and should be inspected by a competent mechanic.

haha, sorry i was thinking of the throttle cable. anyway i dont think a clicking sound would be caused by worn break pads or rotors
