My friend was obsessed with turning his auto Camry to manual so he he looked up all what was required and you can do it but with my personal opinion, I would stay away from that. It would be alot of time just swapping everything and cutting holes and adding things that weren't meant for the car so I think you would be better of in the bank account and spend less time if you just look for a different car.
But the 2 gen rx7 is very easy to maintain. The only problem with mine was that it was sitting for a couple years and the calipers froze but thats typical for any car. I can not start it up for several month at a time and it always starts up on the first or second time.
I guess when you are looking at the car, I would just look at the amount of rust on the pinch welds and just use your good judgment on the rest of the parts to see if it looks like it was taken care of. I hope this helps a little.
