wont shift into 5th or reverse!!!
Hey everybody, Here is the deal, I was driving home last night and i got to my driveway. stoped and tried to put it into reverse. And it wouldnt. tried over and over again. No good. So i pulled in forward and try going through the gears. No go on 5th or reverse. I tried jamming it into gear, pushed the clutch in a bunch of times, Nothing doing. turned it off and the same thing. Well i took off the shifter mechanism today. the thing( i dont know what its called) that the shift lever connects to doesnt go into those two gears. maybe something got jammed down there?? or is my tranny screwed??? i dont have any idea. any info is good for me. thanks

One of my FC's did this. My tranny mount had broke and the tranny slid out of position, so the normal gates wouldn't work. Get under it and check it out. May just be a bolt broke or backed out on one side :^)
wow, that's harsh for you two.. .with mine, it was the spring that was inside the bolt that holds the shifter-**** fluid in.. . basicically, i took it out, it somehow got jammed in at a wrong angle, prolly when i was working on the shift ****,... aligned properly, and wha-la, it's worked since.. .
Alright guys, ill check both those things you said. Im not sure if i fixed the prolem or made it worse by forcing it into gear, Well it will go into gear now both of them, its kinda hard to get into reverse the first time but after that its fine. My 5th gear syncro was going out before so i think i might need a tranny rebuild anyways. hmm, which spring are you refering too? the one near the shifter mechanism? thanks for the info guys, i really apperciate it.

yeah, when you take your outer and middle boot off, you can see the BIG nut towards the rear of the car.. I think it's something like 3/4" nut, that's what iw as referring to.. when you take it off, you're going to get gear oil all over, so stuff some rags down there, and there should be two springs inside of it..
