wont run below 2700

wont run below 2700

I finally got my 88 gxl started up, thanks to yall for that! but she wont run below bout 2700 rpms and it sorta is doing a good bit of popping. no smoke, new plugs-one plugs has a cracked insulator that i will replace soon. I got my fuel pump TEMPORALIY wired into the plate illuminator lights. and i bled all the brakes. SO what should i do bout getting it to idle? my search didnt help much.

i have the same problem but mine wont run under 1500... i know how it feels

check every vacuum line, it sounds like a leak. My car wouldnt idle below 3000 a while ago, it was a vacuum leak.

if it helps, it started smoking at higher rpm's around 7k and it would smoke pretty bad for a while. Whats the best way to check for the leaks? Thanks for the replys

In the archive there's a thread about fixing idle problems. Go to that and work from there.

Start by fixing what you know is wrong.
