wonder why my car idles high after hard driving or long driving?

ok i drive my car nice and easy for the most part, around town it will idle nicely at 1k or a tad lower only when i dont get into it, however if i gun it and hot rod it or just go fast on the freeway 70-75 then when i stop it then idles at 1400 or so rpms!! does anybody know why it does this? ive ruled out the throttle cable being stuck because when i kill it and crank it again it idles normal... its really bugging me right now... thanks in advance

Yeah, I'm not sure. But when I drive my car slow it idles at around 1k, maybe a tad lower, just like yours. However, after hard driving it idles to a perfect 750.

I suppose I would try an oil change, and/or spark plug change depending on how long it's been. And while many people don't recommend synthetic, give Royal Purple a try. It's the smoothest thing I have ever run.
