Wolf3D ver 4.x issues

I recently ran my 86 NA till the end of it's life (238000km's) and decided Series 4 turbo transplant would do the trick. I had my local Rotor specialists put a Wolf3D v 4 in and pull out the old ECU. Things I didn't relalise:

With out the ECU what happens to items such as Air cond, power steering, electronic suspension, cold start and fuel economy.

I've had to have the Air cond hard wired to the logicon box as there was no other apparent way to get it to go - you miss the damm thing when it's 40 degrees outside, the catch is when turn i on while idling the car stalls about 50% of the time. Is there anyway the wolf can adjust for this extra load?

Power steering after the car has been warming up for about 60second goes very firm, basically it feels like i'm getting no power assistance. The car internal beeper goes off at this stage with 4 beeps, pause, 4 beeps, pause then a beep every second (I can find nothing on these error codes) Once the car has been driven all of about 5m the power steering kicks back in. I've also cornering at high speeds it feel like the amount off assistance changes dramitically (can be quiet dangerous), whereas it used to be a smooth change.

Cold start - basically won't hold idle, fires up at 1500 then in about 3 secs falls right down till it stalls.
Warm start - about 50% of the time it sounds like it running very rough- coughing and spluttering
It runs fine above 3500rpm most of the time under 7psi.

Also if anyone could off feedback on running the wolf in a closed loop mode (I believe I need to install a O2 sensor in the exhaust) does this improve fuel economy? used to get 340kms a tank typical driving - same driving (work to home) I struggle to make 260km's (as much as I would like to be on boost idling thu town here ain't much need for it).
I often get a strong fuel smell while driving and more so once the ignition is off (can lsat for 20mins or more) and was wondering if the closed loop could help with this or is it somthing else askew?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. TII is definately more fun than the NA, i'd just like to get the bugs out.

Re: Wolf3D ver 4.x issues

Put the stock ECU back in the car. A standalone EMS can only do so much, and you need to retain the stock ECU for some functions on a street car. This goes for every standalone EMS from Microtech, Haltech, Wolf, Motec, Electromotive, etc.

Yes, the Wolf can run in closed-loop mode if you hook it to a narrow band O2 sensor. It should already be hooked up to an O2 sensor in order to give you an air/fuel ratio reading. If it is hooked up, then you just need to enable the closed loop mode with the hand controller. Once again, your tuner should have done this if that's what you specified. However, most people don't bother with the closed loop mode. The Wolf is capable of very good gas mileage in open loop mode if tuned correctly.

The smell sounds like it may be leaky fuel injectors and/or leaking pulsation dampers. This would also contribute to poor gas mileage.

I have no idea what you did to the air conditioning, but the Wolf has an aircon request input that adjusts the idle under AC load. Your tuner should have hooked this up.

Your car is not tuned correctly. Take it back to the shop that did the tuning and tell them to fix it.

"With out the ECU what happens to items such as Air cond, power steering, electronic suspension, cold start and fuel economy."

This is only partially true. Air conditioning, cold start and fuel enconomy can all be adjusted with the Wolf. Actually, my fuel economy is better with the Wolf (and i have the old 3.1!!!).

Power steering doenst have anything to do with your old ecu box.

Electronic suspension is crap. It has lots of problems and will never be as good a nice set of shocks and springs. Dont worry about the electro suspension, just save up and get some better stuff, you will be happy you did.

Air conditioning can be used with the 4.0. There is a load adjustment that makes the car idle up to compensate for the extra drag of the compressor during idle.

As far as the other problems go, aviator is right. Go back and get those tuning issues worked out. We just finished a wolf 4.0 install on a stock GSL-SE and there is a BIG improvement with the engine mangament (and no other mod!)

Hope this helps you a bit!

Neither does the AAS, but the point I was trying to make is that he needs to put back whatever he took out.

This is also the case with the RX-7's runing the Wolf 3.x and 4.0 EMS in my area.

Thanks for that. I'm glad to hear I can do something about the fuel economy, not real happy losing all those miles.

I had the auto adjust shock for about 2 months, they were completely stuffed when I got em, so I had adjustable koni's fitted, and the difference was amazing.

Might take to a tune up place and see if they can to a air/fuel test with something up the exhaust to see how much fuel is coming out the rear.
