Rotary no go

Okay, most of you guys who read the kills know that I am more of the engine swapper than a rotary guy, rotaries are nice but just to expensive for me. But I just got another seven, it is an 87 NA but there is a problem. I got it for my 3.8 Turbo (GN/TTYPE) but would like to drive the rotary for a bit. The problem is that it has no go. Like it will start and run but it has no power, it'll get up to about 30 then doesn't have a whole lot more, it sat for a bit and whatnot, and I never really asked how good the motor was, never cared. Now that I begin to look at it I see that it has a problem, someone said an APEX seal and one other guy said to put a tablespoon of AT fluid in it but I am not sure. Some of you guys on here have too much rotary info and if there is a place to get all the possibilities it is here, Any help would be great.

Will the car rev freely when not in gear? Id 1st check the exhaust, see if the cat(s) are clogged. Can you give any more info other than what you already said?

#1 rule of rotary troubleshooting, perform compression test first.

remove lower plugs. open throttle. remove EGI fuse. test front, then rear, with adjacent chamber open.Anything over about 70 should run, and anything over 100 is pretty decent.

Hmm

Hmmm, well, I planned on yanking the cats to try it (probably tonight), I'll just cut it out completely (MI no smog laws) and see what happens. I didn't even think of the fuel filter, I'll have to pressure test it. See, give me a small block and I'll be okay but with rotaries trouble shooting is a little hard, so many little things that could go wrong (My best friend tunes my T2). I always think it is some big thing that will evade me. Umm, about the revving, it never seems to rev quite like my t2 but I'm not really sure if it would be that different for the NA. I'll have to go home and really see and get back, thanks for the help guys.
