Wish me luck....leaving for Vegas next week....
I have much faith in my car....but any suggestions that would make the trip easier on the car would be much appreciated. OK....here's the lowdown.....just rolled over 138K miles, leaky right rear caliper, bad diff, exhaust leak the size of....well, it's pretty damn big. I'm getting the diff. fixed this Monday and possibly the caliper. What's the most miles I can grab per tank? I've gotten 100 miles on a 1/4 more than once(all highway). Don't ask how...I just did. I'm changing the oil before I leave. Bringing two bottles of coolant. Anything else? Oh yeah, I'm making this trip w/NO radio. What should I bring to keep me up? How much Red Bull? Lol. I plan on going nonstop to Iowa, then chillin' there for a day or two. The trip is around 2600 miles. Will she make it? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks people.

Former Moderator. RIP Icemark.
I might bring spare belts and hoses, if you didn't replace them at 120K miles.
And tools.
IMO you should make sure everything is fixed that you know is wrong before you go.

Make sure you got a spare. Definitely bring tools. I sure don't like driving long distances in a car I have this much doubt it, thats for sure. How has the car treated you so far anyways?

Bring MONEY! there is no better cure than Cash. If you need a tow, or have to buy a part, or take it to a shop or somthing. And tuck some spare cash away before you hit the Casino's or the ride home might give you a problem. The craps tables don't give sypathy refunds
DAMN! I love Vegas!

Coming to my town, huh?
How about getting a Sony Walkman tape player.
Go to the library a get some book tapes. Using them lets me drive as much as 14 hours a day, and the time passes quickly. You can mail them back to a friend to turn in.
It is hot here. HONEST! You will be sitting in traffic jams at 110 degrees - or hotter. Make sure your cooling system is first rate. This heat is absolutely intolerant of any imperfections in your cooling system.
A radar detector is useful.

I'm heading out to Vegas next week too. You definately need AC!!!! That is a MUST HAVE!! Speaking from experience, the worst thing that you want to happen is to get stuck in the middle of the desert trying to fix your car in the hot baking sun. It's like being in the middle of no man's land especially if the nearest town is like an hour or so away. Luckily we got stuck near Whiskey Petes on our way home.... I can only imagine if we got stuck else where. Learning from our own experience, we're just gonna rent a car! Believe me, its not worth getting stuck there!
