Wiring up a stereo in an FC....

Since My beater car blew its boinger engine I now have a Sony stereo that I can use in the FC. I am not into really big systems at all. But my girl gets bored in traffic and I don't like torturing her in the car. How would I start to wire in the stereo? The GTU i'm putting it in previously had a "system" with a sub box and some camelian(sp?) head unit.<-gone now....I have some 4" speakers for the front slots and I can get some 6.5" units for the rear. Will I need an AMP for this? My stereo is something like 45Wx4 or something like that. All of you audio guys chime in with some tips if you will. Thanks!

You definatly are not going to need an amp for just 4 speakers. You could arguably run 6 normal speakers as long as you're not blasting it.. You only really need an amp if you're going for louder/super clear audio to the high ends, or of course, if you're getting a subwoofer an amp is a must.. Just wire them up straight with new wires, and bypass the stock RX amps, they suck.

I've installed a lot of sony systems, and they work pretty well, and I have patched into the amps on the rear speakers in my car, but it just doesn't work out... so KISS (Keep it simple...), just run new speaker wires to all four speakers and make your life easy don't forget about the relay setup if you have a power antenna, but you probably already know about that.

the car has a relay in the engine bay that has some wires hooked up to it and I have two 6 or 4 gauge wires one red one black(amp power) and some speaker wire too. I don't know how to set that shiat up though. I am a complete noob to this since my last car was really a super light FC with nothing in it but what was really needed. I need a new antena though the stock one looks like the mast broke or something its extended but the last parts that extend out(thinest) are loose and will move up and down freely. :/

speaking of those stock amps, how do you bipass those? Do I have to run speaker cable all the way from the head unit or is there speaker wire going into those amps in the back that I can snip?

I ran new wire to the front speakers-

Used to stock non amp'd for the rear in my SE.
Worked great.

Running wire for the rear isnt a bad idea depending on the conition of the rest of the wiring harness.
It takes like 20 minutes for me to pull new.

For the engine wiring- track all of it down and take it off.
Get rid of it. You will do more damage then good trying to use it.
That thick stuff was for amps and **** you dont have to worrie about. Im running a Kenwood 200w deck, 4 in the front, 6.5 rear and it sounds fine.
Where the head until was, there should be +, -, ignition power, antenna relay power, antenna, 4 speaker wires.

dude just take the wiring from each speaker, cut that ****, and re-wire it back into the center of the dash, when that's done rewire all that **** into a new wiring harness that will fit your head unit, it should have come with instrucations as to which color is what for each speaker (grey/ grey*black= front right- or some ****) if that doesn't work find a tone generator and figure out which speakers go with which wires, then just re-wire that **** up, if you're just going for four speakers you will not need an amp
four four+ speakers/four speakers/sub you will definitely need an amplifier, and be careful because the stock alt. blows...70 amps is ****, get a power cap

any questions pm me, i just threw a new system in my 88 base

peace

The relay is needed to reverse the current on the feed for the electric antenna. Its like 2 bucks at a parts store. I got the wiring diagram in a thread a long time ago from NZ and Ice.

As for wiring, unless your driving a vert all of the stock amps can go. Just rewire the entire system, you will be happeir for the time invested. For vert owners, if you want to keep the functionally of the headrest controls, you need to keep the amp for that unit. Its not to hard to do. A thread or 50 exist on that so do a search. rotary Resuraction did a quick wirteup on that (might be under his old name hyptnzr7 [not sure of spelling here])

The stock door speakers in a S5 are amplified with an amp behind the glovebox. The amp only allows the door speakers to play low frequiences(sp). The easy bypass to this is to just find the amp and unplug both plugs and plug them together.

I wouldnt even bother installing the front dash speakers. they fire towards your shin and you will barely ever hear them.

wouldn;t that be a good spot for a bit of bass if you can find the right speaker. I am working out a new sound system for my vert where choices are limited and I was looking to go with a mp3 sattelite head unit, keep the headrest speakers and controls, throw 6.5's in the doors, tweeters in the mirros covers and something into the 4" holes.

unless the mirror covers on a vert have more depth behind them than the coupe, then the tweeters wont fit. I installed mine right behind the vent in the door. This gives a great angle for sound stage and looks pretty good too.

I am molding them in, KIA's have traingle pieces that are somewhat close and have tweeters built in. I bought two of those did some triming with the dremel and attached them to the mazda ones. A little tiger hair and some black plastic paint and they look factory!
