Wire wrap/tape

Does anyone know where to get that tape/wrap that the factory wire harness is in...? I am just trying to do some preventive maintenance while the car is down. I would really like to re wrap the harness since it looks like it has seen better days. Anyway anyone know where to get that stuff or somthing just as good..?

I use (and have available on my website) 3M brand #33 tape. It is designed for automotive applications and is very flexible, but also long lasting adhesive that does not bleed acid into the wires (unlike some of the cheapo home depot special tape).

If wires are anywhere near to or exposed to high/prolonged temps you don't want to use adhesive vinyl tape. It will come off, make a sticky mess, and eventually get brittle when exposed to prolonged temps. I have my car down as well, and found the special non-adhesive tape here: http://www.lectriclimited.com/mainpage.htm

Just go to the catalog page. You will have to pick any of the clasic cars in the list to start the search, and then find the part # for the size tape you want.

I got two rolls of 1 1/4" for $22.00, and only used one for retaping the engine harness.
If you want to go all out, do a search on ebay for "self fusing", "self vucanizing", or "self amalgamating" tape. The kind to use is made of silicone and bonds to it's self without adhesive as well. I use it to finish off the ends, and to cover up the cracking rubber injector plug boots after I fille them with high temp silicone. BTW. That strechy orange tape allready on the engine harness ends is a self fusing tape. ( The new stuff I got off ebay is yellow, and is much thicker )
I bet my engine harness is submersible now

Oh, and if you completely remove all the old tape, before retaping be sure to use some cloth tape underneath to give the wires more protection.

Hope that helps!

I used 3M #88.. the reason I used 88 instead of 33 is that 33 is only heat resistant up to 105* C, and 88 is good for 140-50*C..

I couldn't find anything out about better cloth tape or the self adhesive or whatever before I wrapped my wires
