Wipers stuck on

The wipers in my 87 NA are stuck on. They will not turn off (which, I guess, is better than not turning on). Is there anything I should check? Should I just order a new switch?

Try unplugging the wiper MOTOR while they are running (wiper switch to OFF first). Then turn the key off, reconnect the MOTORs plug, then turn the key back on and see what happens. It sounds like a stuck relay. The contacts may welded together even after doing the above.

Get someone to rebuild your wiper switch. Needs two new relays. Ask Icemark or some else if they will do the repair for ???????? quite a bit less than a new one and if you buy a used one it will most likely have a fault of one kind or the other itself. Rebuild/replace the two relays inside it. They need to be soldered in. Search for WIPER or WIPER RELAYS etc.

Hailers, Thank you. Do you mean the motor under the window cowl or were you suggesting something else?

Engine bay. Right hand side. Out in the open and easy to disconnect it's plug.

Thanks. I thought I was missing something obvious.

The wipers shut off so I'll order a rebuilt switch from Icemark.

Curious. If you put the plug on the motor back on, and then turn the key ON, do the wipers still move or did they quit moving? Just curious.

Let's pretend that if you put the plug back on and put the key to ON, that they still move. Well try this since your removing the switch anyway. Pull the elect plug off the SWITCH and leave the motors plug on. Key to ON. IF they still move, then the problem lies not with the switch but most likely a short to gnd on one of the blue/white or blue/red wires b/t the motor and the switch. NOT a likely scenario.
