What I've done in the past is leave the plug on the motor. Turn the key to ON. Then using a spare piece of wire that is bolted to a good chassis ground, I insert the other bare end of that wire into the L/R or the L/W sockets of the plug with THE PLUG STILL CONNECTED TO THE MOTOR.
In other words backprobe the L/W and the L/R one at a time and watch the wiper blades move back/forth.

i mean, i dont entirely understand the process and/or can't wrap my head around it 100% so i want to double check one last time before i have to rip my console off again and mail this freakin thing back to the guy (when he says he tested it before he shipped it but that i am free to send it back for a refund)

About the only way I know is prretty simple. Pull the plug off the wiper switch.
Find a really good ground in the cockpit and attach a wire to it firmly. Put the other end to the blue/white wire and then the blue/red wire on the wiper SWITCH plug (disconnected from the switch). The wipers should work as before when you were in the engine bay.

It's the two relays inside the wiper switch housing that decide if the thing works in fast, intermittent etc speeds.
That's all that needs to be done to a switch that works just in slow. Install a new relay or two. They are soldered in and are hard to access. You have to cut some of the surrounding plastic to desolder them.
Some folk have a wiper repair service on this forum.

Since you already bought it and its defective, I would return it if possible. In the future, though, you can get the repaired at www.mazdamark.com. Its run my Icemark of these forums and he is very good and very trustworthy. He repairs them for a reasonable fee or you can just buy the replacement relay and fix it yourself for cheap, but only do that if you are familiar with electronics repair as it is pretty easy to screw up a circuit board if you don't know what you are doing.

don't see why someone would go through all the hassle of shipping out a non-functional one tho. grrr.
that and i don't know why all these people use UPS when i shipped the thing back to the guy for pretty much $3 aside from the $2 insurance.
